Born and raised right here in Church Point, Bruce Lyons brings a deep sense of hometown pride and personal connection to his work in the Emergency Department at Acadia St. Landry Hospital. For him, this job is more than a career—it’s part of his family legacy.
“Some of our older patients come in and recognize my last name—they’ll tell me stories about my parents that I’ve never heard before,” Bruce says. “It’s one of the things I enjoy most—those unexpected connections.” With both of his parents having been involved in the hospital years ago, Bruce sees his work as continuing a legacy of service—one story, one patient, one moment at a time.
His first job was digging, cleaning, and crating sweet potatoes, a hands-on role that taught him early lessons in hard work and persistence. Those values stuck—and still show up in his approach to care today.
Bruce starts his mornings with tea, and as a proud morning person, he brings a steady, grounded energy to even the busiest shifts. Outside of work, he’s a man of many talents—he enjoys woodworking, fishing, cooking, and baking. In fact, baking desserts is one of his favorite ways to relax.
One thing most people don’t know about Bruce? He spent five years working undercover in narcotics—an intense chapter of his life that speaks to his calm under pressure and deep commitment to protecting others.
If he had a superpower, he’d choose invisibility—perhaps a nod to his behind-the-scenes humility and ability to observe without seeking attention. And if he weren’t in healthcare, he’d be putting his hands to work in another way, pursuing carpentry, welding, or electrical work.
When it’s time to recharge, Bruce and his wife love to vacation at the beach or Disney World, soaking up time with family and creating new memories away from the stress of hospital life.
His advice to those just starting in healthcare is simple but powerful: “If you enjoy what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life.”
Bruce Lyons is proof that when healthcare is personal, it’s powerful.
At Acadia St. Landry Hospital, Small Town, Big Care always starts with people like him.
