Residents enjoyed a wine tasting and food pairing last week featuring selections from Deer Run Winery. They sampled four different wines while learning about each one’s aroma and the flavors they should be tasting. It was a fun and educational experience for everyone involved!

It also happened to be National Jelly Bean Day on April 22nd, so we added a sweet twist with a jelly bean guessing contest. The winners were announced during the wine tasting. There were 523 jelly beans in the plastic frog, and Lorene came closest with a guess of 506. Two residents tied for second place with guesses of 500. Thank you to everyone that participated and congratulations to our winners.

April 22nd was Earth Day—a time when people around the world come together to raise awareness about environmental issues like climate change and take meaningful action, such as planting trees, reducing plastic use, and recycling.

To celebrate, we repurposed unused books from our library and transformed them into beautiful flower holders. The ladies had a wonderful time selecting flowers and creating their own unique designs. One of the best parts is that the arrangements aren’t permanent, allowing them to switch out the flowers with the changing seasons.

Today is Administrative Professionals Day, and here at Parklands we would like to extend a special thank you to our full-time concierge, Michelle along with our additional concierges – Martha, Eileen, Cheri, Samantha, and Krystal. Not only do they keep everything running smoothly at the front desk, but they always make time for our residents. Residents know that if they have a problem, they can turn to our concierge department—and if they don’t have the answer, they will find someone who does. Each of them are wonderful people, and we are truly lucky to have them as part of our community.

A few weeks ago, we created our own homemade amaretto using white and brown sugar, water, vodka, vanilla, and almond extract. It has been in the refrigerator developing its flavor over the past few weeks, and on Sunday, it was finally time to give it a try.

Residents enjoyed the amaretto in hot chocolate or served over ice with a splash of club soda. It was a big hit! When asked to rank it as top, middle, or bottom shelf quality, the consensus was somewhere between middle and top—not bad at all for a homemade creation.
