In 2023 it was recorded that the Black Maternal Mortality rate was over 3x higher than the rate for their white counterparts. In addition to this, Black mothers are more likely to experience certain birth risk factors that directly relate to increased likelihood of maternal or even infant mortality.
Two of these risk factors (Preterm Birth and Low Birth Weight) are known to be side effects of high stress levels that continue for a period of time. While stress is not the only factor impacting these disparities -
Taking care of your mental health and wellness is crucial during pregnancy, which can be difficult for some moms to navigate on their own. It is important to know what resources are available for moms to keep stress at bay:

* Doula Support (😘) gives you the peace of mind of having a hand to hold through every change or obstacle during your pregnancy and postpartum journey
* Childbirth Education Classes (😉) to release anxieties surrounding the birth process
* Practicing mindfulness and management of negative emotions and/or experiences
* Stress relieving activities such as light exercise can improve sleep, reduce pain, and even make your labor a smoother experience
