Nick's Journey Sharing our journey as we search for a kidney for Nick.

Happiest of birthdays to Nick's donor, my brother Sean!! Hoping you have an amazing day! We love you!!

Tomorrow is the 1 year anniversary of Nick's kidney transplant. Wow! While it has been a full year, it feels like it was just a few months ago. Within that year, there have been challenges and success. I count my blessings every day!

We would not be where we are had it not been for our friends and families who have been there from the very beginning. We love you and thank you for everything!

To my brother Sean.... you saved Nick's life. You gave our boys their father, me my husband. Most don't know, but Nick's kidney function dropped below 15% on the day of his transplant. Thank you for the gift of life... We love you!!!

Nick continues to do well and is looking to return to the office overthe next few weeks! Our boys continue to thrive and do well!!

Thank you all for you continued support and prayers this past year +.

Happy Thanksgiving!

We have a lot to be thankful for this year! Nick is just over 6 months post transplant and aside from the occasional mouth ulcers, all of his numbers look great. We continue to pray for positive news with every test!

We truly have the best family and friends. We are thankful for their unwavering support with anything and everything. We are thankful for our friends both near and far for everything they have done. All your support has guided us through our toughest moments.

We most certainly could not have made it through these past 6 months without the support from you all. Your prayers and well wishes has helped us all.

We hope you all have enjoyed your Thanksgiving! Many prayers to you and yours as we enter the holiday season!

Hello!!!

It has been a while since we have posted. Nick's numbers remain positive with the exception of his white blood count. He has also developed a few mouth ulcers. His team at Christ Hospital is on it and it could mean a change in his medication. We hope that he continues to feel well and they can get his WBC up. They are also looking for him to get another COVID vaccine, but we will have to wait for his WBC to improve.

We hope that all is well with you and yours and we hope to be able to share some improvements over the next few days!

He's home!!! We will continue to monitor his WBC for now... fingers crossed this is his last extended stay at the hospital!

Update-

We have finally had some positive progress. White Blood Count has jumped to 2.0 (it was 0.8 on Thursday) and the time between fevers is growing longer. Pain is improving in his throat, so we will take it! We are told that if he can eat/swallow and has no fever, he can come home!

Regarding a diagnosis, every test has come back negative at this point. Not sure if they will be able to pinpoint it... we shall see.

Thank you all for your prayers and support! Big thanks to all of our family member who always have been helping out by watching the boys, picking them up from daycare & camp, and extending our meal train and providing additional meals (including those who have signed up for a second round).

The next few days will be telling, and will keep you all updated as best as we can. Keep those prayers coming!

Update-

They are still waiting on results from various tests, but have not been able to pinpoint what is causing Nick to continue to have a fever and his WBC really low. They did give him an injection to see if that will boost his WBC, and we will wait to see if it works. This still is no discharge date. If Nick does not improve, additional testing will required. Please continue to pray!

Quick update...

Nick will remain at Christ for the time being. Kidney looks good, but they have yet to determine what is making him sick. He still has a fever and his white blood count has not improved as of right now. We will continue to pray and wait that his fever breaks and his WBC improves.

Nick is back at Christ. They are working him up to see what is causing his fever. They are already treating for a possible bacterial infection, hopefully we will know more in the morning. On the positive side, kidney stats look ok. Please pray that we have answers soon so we can get him feeling better!

Today we celebrate our 12th wedding anniversary! It happens to fall on the feast day of St. Benedict who, I am told, is the patron saint of a wide variety of people and needs, including those with kidney disease! Who knew!!

We are seeing some of the side effects of the medication Nick takes daily to ensure his Donor Specific Antibody tests continue to come back negative and his body does not reject his new kidney. His creatinine has also gone up slightly, but there has been no cause for alarm for now.

Nick continues to feel better, and has returned to the kitchen to make dinners! He loves to cook, and we are all happy that is back to cooking! The boys clearly prefer his dinners over mine :)

Please continue to think of him when you can! Happy July 11th!

It has been a long 3 weeks! Nick has responded well to the apheresis and chemo and has 2 negative Donor Specific Antibody tests! We are back at Christ to have his hemo line removed! Christ will continue to monitor his DSA levels and hopefully we can put this all behind us. Thank you all for your continued prayers!

We have had a bump in the recovery process. Nick's counts for rejection came back high and he will be admitted for treatment. Please pray that the course of treatment works and he is no longer rejecting his new kidney. Thank you.
