In 2023, I made Black History as the first Black woman physician to be featured on the cover of the Cincinnati magazine’s Top Doctors issue. The magazine SOLD OUT in stores. So, I financed a reprint through my business.

I was nominated by my peers to be the person to diversify the Top Doctors covers. It meant so much to me because I have spent my entire career fighting for underdogs like myself to have opportunities to become physicians and for patients to have access to diverse, culturally competent physicians. I do this work because I know that it really saves lives.

I’m just a girl from East Cleveland serving my community and teaching the next generation of physicians to be like me. In my mind, I’ve always been iconic and maybe delusional🥹 It’s been working for me though so I’m going to stay that way🥰

My patients give me such lovely and thoughtful gifts 🥹 So I decided to step my game up this year and give my Family Medicine physician a gift box full of health and wellness items. She deserves it 🥰

It’s Cervical Cancer Awareness week. I am 8 years into my fight as a Cervical Cancer survivor. What I’ve learned:

❤️ The work that we do in Family Medicine is important. My Family Med physician was performing a routine annual Pap smear and saw something that concerned her so she referred me to specialists 💐

❤️ Being diagnosed with cancer at a young age shifts your entire perspective on life. As a purpose driven person, I walked into my purpose and let go of a lot of things and people. Especially the things and people that are driven by pride. I cannot relate to being more prideful than purposeful.

❤️ Life is a gift. Prior to my diagnosis, I was doing many things that I enjoyed but I did not have enough balance with work and play. Back then, I was working a lot. I was actually overdue for my annual physical because I was working so much. Right before my diagnosis, I quit part of my job and switched to working part time. I knew that I needed more time for myself. I chose me. No regrets 🥹

I started MMA training after my 5th Cancer-versary because I was super grateful to be a part of the 50% of people who make it to the 5 year survival mark with adenocarcinoma of the cervix, a rare form of Cervical Cancer.

I wanted to try something new. I was introduced to my trainer and he immediately became like an uncle to me. I later learned that Marty is a Girl Dad like my father is a Girl Dad.

He trained his daughter to MMA fight and she is about my age. He cheers me on during my workouts and bops his head to my music. There is a lot of nostalgia in these workouts. Boxing has become my favorite type of “Body Work”

We were able to make it to the store today before the snow started to come down! When you are snowed in, might as well take the time make some sushi 🙌🏽💃🏽 Have you ever made sushi at home?

3 reasons that I love The Blue Zones: 9 Lessons for Living Longer by Dan Beuttner

❤️I love old people and I hope to be one someday
❤️It debunks the myth that you have to be “wealthy” to be “healthy”
-Of course, I understand that the social determinants of health are important. But so many of my patients truly believe that they will never be “healthy” because they can’t afford it
-That’s a wild concept to me because when I was poor, I never thought that way. I tried to control what I could control within my budget.
-The media in America is a big part of the problem. It’s dangerous and frustrating to say the least.
-This book serves as a reminder that other countries exist, they are doing low cost interventions for healthy living, and it works better!!!
❤️It focuses on the stories of people and community. I love the stories of people and community
