A grateful shout out goes to Green Umbrella, the City of Cincinnati, Home energy Services Group, and Quality Training Precision Inspections for providing us with the opportunity to learn the science of building performance and energy efficiency. Our trainers Dave & Bryan were patient and supportive through it all, and we made some really great connections with our wonderful classmates.

At the graduation, Eric gave his first public speech in front of an audience and did really well! He has a natural personable presence that is going to take him very far in his entrepreneurial endeavors…

Special thanks to Councilman Mark Jeffreys for a moving reminder of the importance of service in this field of work, and our classmate Kathy for exemplifying so well the knowledge learned and shared.

Today was another opportunity to make some wonderful connections with leaders in the industry: HandiFoam, Home Energy Services, Knauf Insulation, Intec, Donovan Energy, Retrotec, and The Energy Conservatory (TEC); and learn about some of the resources available through The Port and Service partners.

Eric and I will be graduating from the BPI Building Analyst Professional (BAP) certicficatiin program this afternoon. Program starts at 12 noon at the Ohio Means Jobs Center located at 1916 Central Parkway. I didn’t think he would go through with it, but he stayed the course - with a little nudging, haha!

I look forward to expanding the business service offerings and helping to ensure quality housing and development in our region!

Attended Cincinnati Business Expo with my entrepreneurial son to show the ropes. Introduced him to some great people and exposed him to many resources. He said I didn’t realize Cincinnati has so many resources for business!

On this episode of The Struggles of the Small Entrepreneur, why are we required to have all our ducks in order only to be ran in circles? It's financially and emotionally draining to go through all the red tape and hoops, only to hope and pray you even get a business opportunity! Like seriously, where is the real support for small businesses??

A note from the Entrepreneur section:

I could say PART OF, but I will go out on a limb and say the ONLY reason I'm not doing my business full-time is because I do not yet have enough business to make a living so that i didnt have to work a full-time job to pa for my living expenses and fund the business...it's definitely not because I don't want to get my hands dirty because i do now and have always done so. I enjoy making and KEEPING a business' property clean! AND I learn first-hand tricks of the trade, and how to be productive, yet efficient! And I am certain that my top-tier work ethic and attention to detail will yield even more business so that I can grow the business, because I take cleaning a property serious and truly go above and beyond!

I wish I had the knowledge and drive to start a business when I was just starting out in the workforce, but now I'm forced to try to build the company by relying on others to fill in gaps, and I must say it is very difficult to find people who enjoy and/or value keeping a business' facility clean. Not sure if it's because they undermine the industry of cleaning and just brush it off as "oh, it's just cleaning", but male no mistake, professional cleaning is not for the faint of heart and requires some skill in order to be productive and efficient (but that's a topic for another day).

I say all this to say, if you are just starting out in the workforce and believe in the quality and competency of your work ethic, go for entrepreneurship if you want to, before you get trapped into working to survive and can't make the necessary sacrifices you need to grow your business.

Entrepreneurship is not for everyone, you must be driven, resourceful, frugal, and willing to go the extra mile to learn all you need to know and accomplish everything you need to do! If you think you have what it takes, go for it before it's too late!

As a business owner, you should be willing and able to do the work yourself - even in the service industry. I am definitely not new to this! Besides, doing the work puts everything in perspective for you to be able to make sound business decisions as well...
