✨As we continue in our week of gratitude during this Thanksgiving season, I think about the impact of our community on the mission of Saint Joe’s. Any mention of the word community at Saint Joe’s starts with the Sisters of Charity, who founded our organization in 1873. It is their spirit that gives us the courage to take on new challenges and the faith that together we can accomplish big things for the individuals we serve. They are the strong roots the support our work.

The individuals we support, and their families are of course the most important piece to our community. It is the sacred trust and bond we have with them that drives us to do the work we do.

The work, however, is challenging and that leads me to thankfulness for the amazing staff and care givers who make the work happen at Saint Joe’s. Their attentiveness, skill and compassion is daily on display in the various ministries of Saint Joe’s and the individuals we support would not be able to meet their fullest potential without each and every member of the Saint Joe’s team.

This finally leads me to the broader community of support that Saint Joe’s has within the greater Cincinnati area and beyond. Whether it is our volunteer Board of Directors, our generous financial donors or the individuals who so selflessly give their time as volunteers to our services, Saint Joe’s would not fulfill its tagline of being a “Community of Possibility” without all of the amazing people who make us who we are.

✨This week, we’re taking a short break from our usual content to bring you a special “Week of Thanks” from Dan, our President & CEO. As we enter the Thanksgiving season, Dan is sharing reflections on gratitude and the small moments that make the Saint Joe’s community so special.

The Thanksgiving and Holiday season is a time for us all to reflect on gratitude and its importance in our lives. While we all recognize the power of gratitude in our lives, most of us, me included, can get lost in the hustle and flow of our daily lives and forget the importance of the simple act of being grateful. One of the things that I’m most grateful for about working at Saint Joe’s is the way it reminds me to be grateful for the smallest of things; to see the profound power and joy of simple, daily rhythms in our lives and in the lives of the individuals we support.

We live in a world that celebrates the big, the profound, the famous and the powerful. That can teach us that gratitude is reserved for big accomplishments and “impressive” things. The individuals we support at Saint Joe’s, however, have a profound way of teaching us the Gospel value that the purest, the truest and the most lasting beauty is found in the simple, daily rhythms and the quiet things in our lives. At Saint Joe’s gratitude flows from the simplicity of a caring moment. Sometimes it is a small and quiet smile and sometimes it is a loud belly laugh, but they always give us a reason to be thankful. My hope for you this holiday season is that you are able to practice gratitude for the power of the small moments in your life.

Feature Friday: Saint Joe’s Joins the Cincinnati Gives Challenge! ✨

We’re excited to share that Saint Joe’s is participating in the Cincinnati Gives Challenge — a friendly, community-wide fundraising effort that brings local nonprofits together during the holiday giving season.

From December 1 at 5 p.m. ET through December 10 at 5 p.m. ET, supporters across the region rally behind the causes they love.

This challenge is a chance for our community to come together and ensure the individuals and families we serve continue receiving the compassionate care and opportunities they deserve.

Did you know that many Saint Joe’s employees choose to give back to our mission in addition to the care they provide every day?

Today we launched our 2026 Employee Giving Program with "Donuts & Donations"...delivering treats to team members across all locations and shifts. It’s a simple way to celebrate the colleagues who voluntarily support the work they help make possible.

We’re grateful for their dedication, generosity, and the countless ways they create possibilities for the individuals and families we serve. 💙

🤗 Feature Friday: Thank You for Keeping the Wheels Turning! 💚

Thanks to your incredible generosity, our Back to School, Back on the Road Appeal raised over $23,000!

Your support allows us to continue the good work happening every day here at Saint Joe’s — and contributes toward the cost of a much-needed new van. This van will help our residents and program participants get to school, the Day Program, appointments, and community outings safely and comfortably.

Every mile, every stop, and every smile is possible because of you. 💚

Our Day Program participants had a wonderful afternoon recently at Mustang Journey🐎, where rescued wild mustangs are given the care and training they need to find their forever homes.

🌟 Mission Monday🌟
Spotlight: Maria Robins, Director of Quality & Compliance

This week, we're proud to spotlight Maria Robins, our Director of Quality & Compliance — a true example of heart, dedication, and the Saint Joe’s spirit.

Maria joined Saint Joe’s in 2017 after meeting our team at a UC job fair. What started as a DSP role during undergrad quickly turned into a career filled with growth, impact, and purpose. After graduation, Maria put aside her original plan of applying to PA school and stepped into a QIDP role — eventually serving as a Program Service Manager and now Director of Compliance.

Favorite Saint Joe’s Memories?
Maria has too many to choose from — but a couple stand out:

✨ As a DSP, she once built a full cardboard playhouse for a young resident. She hauled a giant box home in her tiny car, spent weeks designing and decorating it, then brought it back to surprise them.

✨ As a Q, she loved helping residents personalize their bedrooms and express themselves. Holiday party decorating was always a highlight — anywhere creativity was welcomed, Maria was there.

Today, Maria brings her passion for improving systems and workflows to the Compliance team. She’s also pursuing her Master’s in Health Informatics, applying what she learns directly to improving processes at Saint Joe’s.

When asked why she loves working here, Maria shared:

“I love working at Saint Joe's because of the people and the passion. It truly is a community. No matter what the day brings, there is a team ready to face it together. I’m grateful that I still get to remain connected with the individuals we support, even without being in a direct care role.”

🌟 Mission Monday: Celebrating Don & Christina Klocke 🌟

Brother and sister duo Don and Christina Klocke grew up in a big family in College Hill and have supported Saint Joe’s for decades. Their connection goes all the way back to childhood, when they attended the St. Joseph Infant and Maternity Home festival every summer!

Inspired by faith and family, Don and Christina give locally to help others experience the same care and community they value in their own lives. Christina has supported Saint Joe’s for 37 years, and Don for 29!

As Don shared, “I can’t find a better place to give my money. I know it’s going to good use and helps provide the ‘extra’ that makes life enjoyable.”

We’re so grateful to have Don and Christina as part of our Saint Joe’s family — we couldn’t be this community of possibility without you! 💙

🎃 Feature Friday: Trunk or Treat Fun! 👻

We hosted one of our favorite annual traditions this week — Trunk or Treat! This special event brought together our employees, their families, residents, and day program participants for a day filled with costumes, candy, and community. 🍬💜

A huge shoutout to The Seven Hills School students who spent hours volunteering to make the day extra festive — cleaning and decorating Seton Hall from top to bottom with Halloween spirit! 🕸️🦇

It was a spooktacular day full of smiles, laughter, and fun memories. Thank you to everyone who made it possible! 👏✨
