When should you use epinephrine (adrenaline)? When is it safe to stay home afterward?

Families dealing with severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) have faced confusing advice for years. Now, for the first time, researchers—led by experts at Cincinnati Children’s—have published clear, evidence-based guidelines to help reduce stress and unnecessary ER visits.

✅ Use epinephrine right away for serious symptoms like trouble breathing or swelling.
✅ In some cases, if symptoms improve and you meet safety steps, you may not need to call 911.

Check the second image for key factors for safely staying home after using epinephrine, and visit the link in our comments to learn how this game-changing research can help families make informed decisions.

Research in action: At Cincinnati Children's, we’re working every day to create better care for kids. We’re proud to share Dr. Ryan Moore’s amazing work using virtual reality to help surgeons plan life-saving heart surgeries. Learn more:

Pediatric cardiologist Ryan Moore, MD, MSc, is using cutting-edge technology to revolutionize how doctors perform heart surgery for children and teens around the world.

Through rigorous research and modeling at Cincinnati Children's, Dr. Moore and his team designed a virtual reality surgical simulation that creates a 3-D digital twin of a patient’s heart. Surgeons around the globe can connect and interact with a patient’s model, enabling more effective treatment plans and improved surgical outcomes.

Thanks to children’s hospitals’ commitment to pediatric research, physician scientists like Dr. Moore are redefining the future of heart surgery and making more moments possible for children and teens. Learn more about pediatric researchers in our new video: https://www.madepossible.org/impact/

Matthew has faced more challenges than most because of a rare genetic disease with no cure. Instead of giving up, he leaned in—becoming the first participant in a groundbreaking clinical trial at our Applied Gene and Cell Therapy Center, part of the nation’s #1 cancer program.

Early results are promising, and Matthew’s courage is helping researchers explore an innovative treatment that could change lives for generations to come.

Clinical research isn’t just science—it’s hope. And Matthew proves every study brings us closer to answers.
