Did you know? Growing up with a dog might help protect kids from developing food allergies! 🐾

New research from a study led by our experts shows that children with food allergies often have slower immune development — but living with a dog seems to help their immune systems grow normally.

It’s another clue supporting the “hygiene hypothesis,” which suggests that early exposure to less-sterile environments can actually strengthen the immune system.

New research study findings!
Cincinnati Children’s was part of a national study that found many preschoolers diagnosed with ADHD are prescribed medication before families try parent behavior management training — the recommended first step for most young children.

Study co-author Dr. Tanya Froehlich says early parent training can help reduce challenging behaviors and may lessen the need for medication later.

Our Center for ADHD offers both group and one-on-one parent training sessions for families of preschoolers.

Learn more about the study and options for families at the link in our comments.

We are recruiting healthy children 2 to 11 years old. We want to learn if an already approved adult Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) vaccine is safe and could offer protection against CHIKV disease in children. CHIKV is a virus that is spread through mosquito bites and can cause severe joint pain, stiffness, and high fevers. Participants will receive up to $625 for their time and effort. For more information, or to see if you qualify, visit the link in our comments or contact the Vaccine Research Center at VaccineResearch@cchmc.org or 513-636-7699.

New research from our Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics sheds light on how loneliness affects autistic youth. In a survey of 241 autistic individuals 15–26 years old, researchers found that negative social experiences—like feeling ignored or excluded—contribute more to loneliness than simply spending time alone.

This means that autistic youth often prefer quality social interactions where they feel included and respected, rather than frequent ones.

Understanding this can help families, peers, and communities create more supportive environments where autistic youth feel truly connected. 💙
