At ERS we believe that older adults should live with dignity and comfort in a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment no matter what their financial situation. Episcopal Retirement Services is proud to offer rent-subsidized affordable senior living communities that provide a variety of options and services not often found in communities for seniors with limited incomes. This philosophy is clearly evident in our low-income retirement communities located throughout Cincinnati, as well as in Wilmington, Blanchester, West Liberty, West Carrollton, Springfield, and Cambridge, Ohio as well as Anderson, Indiana, and Lexington, Kentucky. In many of the communities, you may find social workers, chaplaincy services, community dining rooms, fitness centers, hair salons, game rooms, resident gardens, transportation services —even Wii bowling teams!

ERS Affordable Living leaders recently attended the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA) Conference & Expo in Anaheim, California, where they gained fresh insights on wellness and new approaches to transforming the way we age.

The conference brought together thought leaders from across the country to explore how organizations can build a culture of wellness that supports active, meaningful aging — including the growing connection between overall well-being and positive cognitive health. Highlighting the importance of brain health, the event demonstrated how dual tasking, the combination of cognitive stimulation and movement, can spark neural activity, increase confidence, build social connections and support a vibrant and positive aging experience.

By bringing these insights back to our communities, our Affordable Living team continues to strengthen ERS’s expertise and advance our Affordable Living Wellness Initiative, helping residents live well in body, mind, and spirit.

🌟 ERS Leaders Take the Stage at LeadingAge! 🌟

At last week’s LeadingAge Annual Meeting, our President & CEO Laura Lamb, Board Member Dora Anim, and Director of Clinical & Community Engagement Felicia Beckham, led a packed session on creating inclusive leadership in senior living.

Their presentation centered on ERS’ “We Can Do Better” initiative—a companywide commitment launched in 2020 to ensure that our leadership, culture, and decisions reflect the values of the communities we serve.

What began as a pledge to listen, learn, and grow together has become a powerful, ongoing effort to lead with understanding and empathy —values rooted in our Episcopal heritage.

Recently, our Service Coordinators came together for a special gathering focused on team building and wellness. From chair yoga with AL Wellness Assistant Afton to a visit to Hidden Valley Orchard, the day was full of mindful moments, laughter, and community.

🏠 Did you know Cincinnati history lives inside our ERS communities?

ERS’ Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) Affinity Group recently welcomed team members for a closer look at the historic Manse Hotel—now The Manse Apartments, an ERS Affordable Living community.

Once listed in The Green Book—a travel guide that helped Black travelers find safe places to stay and dine during segregation—the Manse welcomed icons of the 1940s–60s and is now on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, it continues its legacy in the community with 60 affordable apartments for older adults while honoring its powerful past. 💛

A special thank you to the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center and Soul Music For Seniors for helping us honor The Manse’s incredible legacy.
