CEI doctors understand that they are ideally positioned to address the eye care needs of our community.

The Cincinnati Eye Institute Foundation is a 503C charitable foundation established to preserve and improve eye sight by providing access to eye care for those who are under-served, furthering the education of ophthalmology, and funding research. CEI patients receive the very best in ophthalmic care, but CEI doctors know that many more people go without eye care because they cannot afford it, or because they are not aware of their risk factors. The CEI Foundation is one way CEI doctors and staff are able to give back to the community

Making an Impact Through the Gift of Sight — in 2025 Alone.

In 2025 alone, The Cincinnati Eye Institute Foundation provided:
👁️ 8,302 adults and 1,204 children with dilated eye exams and glasses.
👓 2,189 patients referred for sight-saving surgery through one of our trusted partner agencies.

CEIF serves patients who are low income, uninsured, or covered by Medicaid, ensuring access to essential eye care when it’s needed most.

Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of irreversible blindness in the U.S.—and in its early stages, it often has no warning signs. Vision loss can happen so gradually that many people don’t realize it until damage has already occurred.

The good news? Routine, comprehensive eye exams are the best defense. Early detection can help protect sight and prevent further vision loss.

This January, join the American Academy of Ophthalmology in spreading awareness and encouraging regular eye care—because protecting vision starts with prevention.

We are excited to announce the transition of Melanie Prevost as the new Board Chair of The CEI Foundation. Melanie has been a dedicated member of the Board since 2016, serving as Treasurer, and brings a wealth of experience to her new role. As a Tax Partner at Plante Moran, Melanie specializes in tax planning and compliance for high-net-worth families and business owners. She has been with Plante Moran since moving to Cincinnati in 2007 and previously worked for an accounting firm in New York City. A CPA with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from American University, Melanie and her husband, along with their two children, live in East Walnut Hills.

Melanie shared, “I am truly honored to step into this new role as Chair of The CEI Foundation. I’m excited to continue our mission of providing vision care and support to those who need it most. Together, we can make a lasting impact on our community.” Amy Jones, President and CEO of The CEI Foundation, added, “We are thrilled to have Melanie take on the role of Board Chair. Her dedication, expertise, and passion for our cause will help us continue to drive the Foundation's mission forward. We look forward to working closely with her to enhance our impact in the community.”

Our Story

In life, timing is everything. The opening of our free charitable vision clinics proves how true this statement is. Our volunteer-run clinics provide free eye care to adults with no health insurance and limited or no income. We provide free eye exams, vouchers for free eye glasses, and help with vision threatening eye diseases.

Timing is everything. We don’t need a crystal ball to know just how badly our community needs our free eye care clinics. As more and more of our neighbors lose their jobs, their income, and their health insurance, the need for our services has skyrocketed.

Since 2008, we have helped 8,000 adults receive the eye care they need, but can’t afford. Grants and donations from people like you make it possible for our neighbors to receive the help they need.
