The Union Township Police Department is seeking qualified applicants to fill vacant police officer positions. Applicants must be at least 21, possess a valid Ohio driver’s license, have a high school diploma, and be free of felony or violent crime convictions. Applicants must also possess a basic OPOTA Peace Officer Certification.

The pre-employment process includes an extensive background investigation, interviews, a polygraph, and a physical examination. Successful hires will enjoy benefits that include health care provided by the employer, longevity pay, tuition assistance, up to 24 days of paid vacation, 12 paid holidays, and provided equipment and uniforms. Patrol officers’ salaries currently range from $36.25 per hour for probationary officers to $45.08 for patrol officers with three years of experience. Officers with prior law enforcement experience may be considered for a higher starting rate than the entry-level probationary rate.

The Union Township Police Department is excited to announce a partnership with Project ChildSafe to provide free gun locks to community members.

Project ChildSafe is a nationwide program to promote safe fi****ms handling and storage practices among all fi****ms owners by distributing key safety education messages and free gun locking devices (firearm safety kits). The program is supported by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the trade association of the fi****ms industry.

Union Township Police can provide two (2) gun locks, user instructions, and safety pamphlets per household. They can be picked up at the Union Township Police Department at 4312 Glen Este Withamsville Rd. while supplies last. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Sgt. Ken Mullis or Sgt. Union Township police officers responded to the area of Regent Road during the overnight hours last night for multiple reports of cars being broken into. After a brief track from one of our police canines , a male suspect was located in the area, apprehended and charged with counts of felony theft and drug possession. As a reminder, please keep your car doors locked and if possible, in a well lit space during the overnight hours and refrain from keeping valuable possessions within eyesight inside the car.
