Join us in saying Happy Trails to beloved coworker and dear friend Sister Ruth Rody, who retired from HRC yesterday. Sister has been with HRC since August 15, 2013; she came in as a volunteer "just to see what needed doing" and she's been greeting folks with a smile and a friendly word ever since.
Sister says that her life has been characterized by divine providence--time and again, God has led her where she is most needed. We are delighted that God chose to bring Sister to us.
Sister's career began at Brentwood Hospital in Warrensville Heights when she was 19 years old. The nurses at the hospital saw her hard work and eagerness to serve others, so they suggested she give nursing school a try; Sister took their advice and graduated with an RN in 1974.
In 1978, Ruth Rody became Sister Ruth when she entered the Sisters of Charity Vincentian. Aside from her canonical year with her community, Sister continued to work at Brentwood Hospital until 1995. While at Brentwood, Sister began the St. Joseph Ministry to the Terminally Ill, a hospice-like volunteer program to provide comfort and dignity to those in their final days.
Sister moved to Kentucky in 1995, where she worked first in a nursing home and then in home health until 2011. In the meantime, Sister's community of the Sisters of Charity Vincentian merged with the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati, which brought Sister to Cincinnati and ultimately to HRC's door, looking for what needed doing.
We're so honored to have been part of Sister's many years of service to others. Enjoy your retirement, Sister Ruth!
