Our ears are truly connected to our whole body and health.

Hearing loss can be linked to other conditions including heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease, cognitive decline, dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, an increased risk of falling, and even increased hospitalizations.

That’s why taking action to treat hearing loss is so important—for your entire health.

When you get your custom hearing aids programmed and fit, you also want to make sure you receive proper follow-up care from your Audiologist.

In addition to that, here are a few key care tips to help ensure your hearing aids are always working properly:

• Wash your hands before you handle your hearing devices.
• Store your hearing aids in a designated, safe, and dry place. Also be sure any pets don’t have easy access to your hearing device.
• Change your wax guards when needed, as instructed when you received your hearing aids.

It’s true that a variety of factors can impact your health, including genetics, medication, and even lifestyle decisions such as smoking.

However, to say that most hearing loss is inevitable is not entirely accurate; most hearing damage happens over time, due to noise exposure, and noise exposure is the most preventable cause of hearing loss today.

What happens if it’s determined I need hearing aids?

After learning more about your lifestyle and your talking through your hearing evaluation, we can fit, program, and fully customize hearing aids to your specific hearing loss.

It’s important that your hearing aids have proper fit and functionality, which is one of the benefits of working with us. Not only do we ensure the perfect fit, but your audiologist also ensures the sounds are clear and comfortable for you.

A few tests are conducted to assess your improved hearing skills such as answering a list of questions, and then other adjustments are made as needed. We also then show you proper follow-up care.

Have more questions about the process? Call us at 513-891-8700 (Cincinnati/Montgomery) or 937-382-2000 (Wilmington).

Sleep apnea describes when the upper airway muscles relax during sleep and pinch off the airway. In turn, this prevents you from getting in air.

Your breathing can stop multiple times per night, and some people’s sleep apnea is so bad that their breathing pauses for hundreds of times throughout the night. Sleep apnea should not be something you just put up with—your sleep quality is critical to your health and well-being, and sleep apnea is linked to heart disease and metabolic issues.

If you believe you have sleep apnea, call (513) 891-8700 (Cincinnati) or (937) 382-2000 (Wilmington) to learn more.
