Il Gyrotonic è stato creato da Juliu Horvath, un danzatore professionista di origine ungherese, dopo essersi infortunato al tendine d’Achille negli anni ‘70.

Per recuperare la sua forza e agilità, ha sviluppato una disciplina chiamata “Yoga for Dancers”, che ha poi dato origine ai metodi GYROTONIC®️ e GYROKINESIS®️.

Nel 1984, a New York, Horvath aprì il suo primo studio, dove creò le macchine speciali che supportano gli esercizi tridimensionali e fluidi del Gyrotonic, permettendo così di lavorare in modo più profondo e preciso sul corpo.

Anni ‘70: Dopo il suo infortunio, Juliu Horvath si trasferisce a St. Thomas nelle Isole Vergini per dedicarsi allo yoga e alla meditazione. Lì sviluppa il “Yoga for Dancers”, che in seguito evolverà nel metodo GYROKINESIS.

Anni ‘80: Horvath torna a New York e apre il suo primo studio, il White Cloud Studio. Inizia a insegnare il “Yoga for Dancers” ai ballerini professionisti. Con il tempo, crea e sviluppa le macchine per il metodo GYROTONIC®️, che usa per aiutare gli studenti a eseguire gli esercizi in modo più efficace.

1991: Le macchine GYROTONIC®️ vincono un premio alla “International Invention Convention” a Pittsburgh, USA.

Oggi: Il metodo si è diffuso in tutto il mondo e viene praticato da persone di tutte le età, non solo da ballerini, per migliorare forza, flessibilità e benessere generale. È utilizzato anche in centri di riabilitazione, studi di danza e per l’allenamento sportivo.

The GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® was created by Romanian-born Hungarian Juliu Horvath.

Juliu credits all of his experiences in swimming, gymnastics, ballet, and creation of The GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® Methods, as the catalyst for creating the Gyrotonic equipment — his deep experiences with movement orientation and understanding of the body, where it needs and wants to move. In other words, the equipment was built to facilitate the movement he was experiencing in his body.

A heartfelt congratulations to Thando and Jessica! Thando has completed her 12 day Comprehensive training with Power Pilates and will continue her studies as an apprentice. Jessica completed her Comprehensive course auditing on her way to become a Power Pilates Teacher Trainer. I feel so fortunate to be able to mentor you both on this journey. You worked incredibly hard during the course and I am so proud of your achievement.
