Rollan C. Elwood, 88, of Taylor, NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at the Guthrie Cortland Regional Medical Center, Cortland, NY.

Rollan was born in the Town of Taylor, NY, on May 11, 1937, the son of the late Carlton and Delia Smith Elwood. He leaves behind a legacy of service and dedication, having committed 24 years of his life to serving as the Town of Taylor Justice of the Peace. Prior to his extensive career in public service, Rollan made his living as a farmer, demonstrating a strong work ethic and deep connection to the land he cherished.

Known for his quiet demeanor and personable nature, Rollan was a beloved member of his community. His contributions extended beyond his professional responsibilities; he was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Cortland, where he served as a High Priest.

Rollan’s commitment to preserving local history was evident in his enthusiastic participation with the Taylor Historical Society, showcasing his passion for the past and the impact it has on future generations.

His family was central to his life, and he is survived by his cherished wife, Nancy Frink Elwood, with whom he shared a loving marriage of 67 years. He is also survived by his daughter Judith (Norman) Durand of Cincinnatus, and grandchildren Laurel (Joseph) Furtado of Madera, CA, and Robin Durand of Greene. Additionally, Rollan was a proud great-grandfather to Emily and Joseph Furtado, as well as Timothy Compropst and Maddox Eggleston. He is further survived by his sisters, Joyce Warren of Sidney and Lilla Towers of McGraw.

In addition to his parents, Rollan was preceded in death by his sisters Lois and Linda, and his brothers Carlton Elwood, Jr. and Russell Elwood, who remain cherished in the memories of those who loved them.

The family will be present to receive friends at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Thursday, December 4, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Memorial services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3725 Fairview Drive, Cortland, NY, on Friday, December 5, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Marathon Cemetery at a later date.

Rollan will be remembered not just for his civic contributions but also for the warmth and kindness he brought to those around him. His legacy will live on through the family and friends who hold him dear.

Gladys E. (Hall) Burrows, 77, of Syracuse, NY, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Health Hospital, Syracuse, NY.

Born in Pitcher, NY, on August 17, 1948, Gladys was the daughter of the late Adelbert and Ethel Fuller Hall. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth and kindness that touched the lives of many.

Gladys was a dedicated member of the The Gathering Place Church in Syracuse and truly enjoyed being a part of the Deaf Ministry. It was here that she found fulfillment and companionship within a community that she cherished deeply. Her commitment to this ministry was a testament to her compassionate spirit and her desire to connect with others.

In her spare time, Gladys found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed watching DVDs, immersing herself in stories that sparked her imagination and provided entertainment. A lover of animals, she took great delight in playing with her cats, who brought her comfort and joy throughout her life.

She is survived by her beloved family members: her sisters, Louise Oralls of Cortland, Joyce (Howard) Seaman of N. Chili, and Mary (Michael) Rosen of Clearwater, FL; her brother, George (Nancy) Hall of Rapid City, SD; and her brother-in-law, Michael Darrow of Nedrow.

In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Darrow and her brother, Gordon Hall.

A celebration of Gladys’ life will be held at a later date, at which time there will also be a celebration of the life of her brother, Gordon, who passed away on November 18, 2025. Rosanne J. (Molnar) Kwak, 82, of Cincinnatus, NY, passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at her home, while surrounded by her loving family.

A dedicated and compassionate individual, Rosanne enjoyed a fulfilling career at the Cortland County Office of Mental Health, retiring in 2010 after many years of service. Rosanne was a passionate sports enthusiast, finding joy in following the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. Her creative side flourished in her leisure time, where she could often be found sewing, crocheting, and engaging in various crafting projects. Above all, Rosanne cherished the moments spent with her family, which were the highlights of her life.

Rosanne is survived by her devoted children, Denise Eaton of Glen Aubry, Bryan (Kara) Kwak of Cincinnatus, and Danielle (Jeremy Atchison) Kwak of Cincinnatus. She was a proud grandmother to Karisa (Marty) Brown of Lisle, Kara-Beth (Greg) Ross of Cortland, Jolene-Mychal (Jared) Closson of Willet, Kyle (Jennifer) Eaton of Willet, Michele McUmber of Pitcher, Jacob Kwak of Cincinnatus, and Jared Kwak of Cincinnatus. Additionally, she was a cherished great-grandmother to Carson, Madyson, Alyson, Natalie, Deegan, Mia, Emma, Stella, Angelina, Sophia, and Kye. She also enjoyed the company of her canine companion, Maggi Mae.

In addition to her parents, Rosanne is preceded in death by her brother, Donald Molnar, who will always be remembered fondly.

A graveside service will be held at Willet Cemetery on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are invited to gather as they pay their respects and celebrate Rosanne's life and legacy. Gordon was born in Pitcher, NY on August 20, 1951, the son of the late Adelbert and Ethel Fuller Hall. He was a devoted member of his community and dedicated his life to service through his work. Gordon retired from Whitney Point Central School after many years of exemplary service as a custodian, a role he took great pride in. Prior to this, he had honed his work ethic and commitment at Cincinnatus Central School, where he left a lasting impact.

Gordon was known for his quiet demeanor and possessive of a dry sense of humor that warmed the hearts of those who had the pleasure of knowing him. Above all, Gordon cherished his family deeply, and he found immense joy in spending time with his nieces and nephews, fostering bonds that will be remembered fondly by all.

He is survived by his dear siblings: Louise Oralls of Cortland, Joyce (Howard) Seaman of N. Chili, Gladys Burrows of Syracuse, George (Nancy) Hall of Rapid City, SD, and Mary (Michael) Rosen of Clearwater, FL. Additionally, he leaves behind his brother-in-law, Michael Darrow of Nedrow.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Darrow.

Virgil was a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

Virgil is survived by his Aunt Janet Maricle, of South Carolina, and by his brothers Vance Pittsley of South Carolina, Veryl Pittsley of Norwich, and Valden Pittsley of Cincinnatus; his sister-in-law Patricia (Vern) Pittsley of Cincinnatus; and his sons Jamie (Patricia) Arnold of Norwich and Josh (Alyce Sivers) Pittsley of Cortland. He is also survived by his grandchildren Bradley (Sierra Staelens) Arnold, Nathan Arnold, Christian (Kyliegh) Arnold, Nevaeh Arnold, Makayla Arnold, Daniel Arnold, and Kayla Pittsley, as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He is predeceased by his parents Joyce and Walt Pittsley, both of Cincinnatus, as well as his Uncle Norman (Betty) Maricle of South Carolina and his eldest brother Vern (Patricia) Pittsley of Cincinnatus. He is also predeceased by his partner of thirty years, Carolyn Joyce Schmidt, of South Carolina, his sister-in-law Marie (Veryl) Pittsley of Norwich, and his great-granddaughter Phoenix Arnold.

Linda M. (Rink) Laudig, 62, passed away peacefully at her home in McDonough, on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, while surrounded by her loved ones.

Born on October 20, 1963, in Cortland, NY, Linda is the daughter of Charles Rink, Sr. and Mary Satterlee Rink. She cherished her upbringing in a community that later inspired her long-standing career in education.

After graduating from Cincinnatus Central School in 1981, Linda further pursued her passion for learning and teaching, earning her Master's in Education Degree from SUNY Cortland in 2000. She dedicated 24 years of her career as a high school math teacher to the Cincinnatus Central School, impacting the lives of countless students with her unwavering commitment to their education. Her leadership as the head of the Cincinnatus Education Association Union for several years underscored her dedication to both her profession and her colleagues.

Linda is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Jonathon Laudig. Together, they raised two children, Brandy (Chris) Howard of Denver, CO, and Jonathon (Leah) Laudig II of Fulton. Linda's family rejoices in the memories created with their grandchildren, Maxwell Orion Howard and Duncan Cobolt Howard, who were the light of her life.

She leaves behind her cherished mother, Mary Rink of Smithville Flats, and her brothers, Russell (Kris) Rink of Michigan and Lawrence (Nancy) Rink of Cazenovia. Linda's warmth and spirit will also be missed by her sisters, Roberta (Brent Rosiek) Rink of Rochester, Barbara (Charles) Winters of Willet, along with a host of aunts, uncles nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as a close family friend, Wade Conklin, who held her dear.

Linda was predeceased by her father and by her brothers, Ronald Rink in 2015 and Charles Rink Jr. in 2020, each leaving a profound absence in her life that she carried with grace.

Graveside services for Linda will be held at the Westview Cemetery (German) on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Mark Brown officiating. Born on December 25, 1953, Scott was the son of the late Morris and Delia Locke Bartholomew. His life was marked by a deep love for the outdoors and a passion for nature, both of which he cherished throughout his years.

Scott was well-known for his dedication to his work, whether it was tending to his farm, cutting firewood, or skillfully making maple syrup. These activities were not merely jobs for him; they were expressions of his connection to the land and the community he loved. He found joy in simple pleasures and took pride in contributing to the local agricultural heritage.

He leaves behind a loving family, including his sisters Elva White of Pitcher, Sandra Calhoun of Taylor, and sister-in-law Virginia Bartholomew of Pitcher; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Scott was predeceased by his brother Oscar Bartholomew, Sr. and his brother-in-law Edwin "Sonny" Calhoun.

Memorial services for Scott will be held at the United Methodist Church of South Otselic on Monday, November 24, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Melanie Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Pitcher Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends at the church on that Monday from 12:00 noon until the start of the service at 1:00 p.m.

Terry D. Shufelt, 73, of Cincinnatus, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at the home of his daughter in Norwich, NY.

Terry was born on November 30, 1951, in Cortland, NY, the son of the late Duane and Jean Crisfield Shufelt. He lived a life dedicated to family, community, and service.

Terry was a proud graduate of Cincinnatus Central School in 1969, furthering his education with an Associate's Degree from SUNY Delhi and earning a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from Cornell University. His career spanned over 30 years as a truck driver for Fuller Sand & Gravel in Taylor, NY, where he was known for his reliability and dedication to his work. Prior to working for Fuller's, Terry had worked as a farmer.

A man of many talents, Terry enjoyed cultivating his garden and canning the fruits of his labor, sharing the bounty with those he loved. He enjoyed driving his tractor and participating in plow days with his fellow tractor enthusiasts, creating lasting memories and friendships. Terry was also a long-time member of the Cincinnatus Fire Department.

Terry is survived by his daughter, Keri (James) Wright of Norwich; his brother, Richard Shufelt of Solon; his stepbrother, Richard (Jackie) Crane of Little York, NY; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins who will deeply miss his presence.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his stepbrother, Tom Crane.

A period of visitation will be held at the K.L. Born on October 17, 1954, in Cortland, NY, Dick was the son of the late Frank and Catherine Allen Fowlston. His life was characterized by his deep commitment to family, service, and community.

He dedicated 14 years to the Cincinnatus Central School as a bus driver, where he was known for his kindness to students and families alike. Before this role, he was employed as a truck driver for B&G in Greene, NY, showcasing his hardworking spirit that defined his career. A proud graduate of Cincinnatus Central School in 1972, Dick had a strong connection to his roots and remained an active member of his community throughout his life.

His contributions extended beyond his professional endeavors; he was past chief and a life member of the Willet Fire Department, reflecting his unwavering commitment to public service. Additionally, he served as a 20-year member of the Willet Town Board and was an active participant in the Willet Rod and Gun Club. Dick’s dedication to local initiatives and his passion for the community left a lasting impression on those around him.

Dick’s family was his pride and joy. He cherished his wife, Christy Brown Fowlston, with whom he shared 47 wonderful years. He is survived by his son, Michael (Rachel) Neilson of Homer; daughter, Barbara (Aaron Shippey) Kemp of Willet; and son, Jeffrey (Jessie) Fowlston of Willet. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Eric, Cameron, Kayla, Dylan, Mathew, Austin, Zachary, Brady, Logan, Eli, and Ella, and great-granddaughter, Blaire. He also leaves behind a sister, Sally (Tim) Potter of Willet. Dick’s warmth and wisdom will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Born on December 20, 1939, in Presque Isle, ME, Judy was the daughter of the late Floyd and Edith Akeley Braley. She dedicated many years of her career to Monarch Machine and Tool in Cortland, NY, from which she retired, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and commitment. Beyond her professional achievements, Judy was a valued member of the United Methodist Church of McGraw, where she served as financial secretary and recording secretary for several years, and actively contributed to her church community, reflecting her deep faith and passion for service.

In addition to her work and community involvement, Judy was an avid reader and a member of the McGraw Book Club. Her love for reading was matched only by her passion for travel; she enjoyed exploring new places and meeting the delightful people in small towns along her journeys.

Judy is survived by her two loving sons, Steven (Myong) Wade of Clarkesville, TN, and Alan (Darlene) Wade of Mesa, AZ. She was the proud grandmother of five grandchildren and delighted in the joy of her seven great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense happiness into her life. She also leaves behind a sister, Necia Daigle.

Judy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Dean Wade, as well as her granddaughter, Sarah Grace Wade. She also mourned the loss of her brothers, Norris and Earlan Braley, and her sister, Nancy Refroe.

Funeral services for Judy will be held at the United Methodist Church of McGraw on Friday, October 31, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Julie Ryan officiating. Marie G. (Spinella) Pittsley, of Norwich, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at the age of 75.

Born on December 30, 1949, in Norwich, NY, Marie was the daughter of the late Dominic and Caroline Hendrickson Spinella. She embodied a spirit of warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family and community.

A retired employee of Empire State College, Marie devoted many years of her professional life to the noble pursuit of education and support. Prior to her tenure at the college, she served with distinction in the Chenango County Department of Social Services and the New York State Department of Corrections, roles that allowed her to make meaningful contributions to the welfare of others.

In her personal life, Marie was a vibrant soul. An honorary member of the 4-H Club, she took immense joy in watching the enthusiastic participants complete their projects. Her love for family was paramount; she reveled in the pursuit of chasing her grandchildren, embracing each moment spent with them as precious and irreplaceable.

Marie is survived by her loving husband, Veryl Pittsley, with whom she shared 43 wonderful years of marriage, creating a legacy of love and partnership. Her daughters, Mary Ann (Peter) Graham of Winter Haven, FL, Trish (Brett Eccleston) Kelsey of Truxton, and Erin (Steven) Graham of South Otselic, along with her son, Jedadiah (Jennifer) Pittsley of Cincinnatus, carry forward her legacy of compassion and grace. She is further survived by her brother, Joseph Spinella of Norwich; her sister, Josephine (Danny) Wi******er of Kernersville, NC; and a number of brothers-in-law, including John Price of Greene, Vance Pittsley and Virgil Pittsley of South Carolina, Valden Pittsley of McDonough, and sister-in-law Pat Pittsley of German. Additionally, Marie’s family expands to include 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom will hold dear the memories of time spent with their beloved matriarch, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins whose lives she touched.

Preceding her in death are her son, James Kelsey, Jr., who left this world in 2019, along with many siblings and her brother-in-law, Vern Pittsley. Their spirits surely welcome her into eternal rest.

Melissa was born on May 6, 1976, in Norwich, NY, the daughter of Robert and Joanne Malmquist Livermore. She is remembered as a devoted wife, a caring daughter, and a cherished sister, whose warmth and spirit touched the lives of all who knew her.

Melissa was a proud graduate of Cincinnatus Central School. Throughout her career, she served as a keyboard/office specialist for the Cortland County Probation Department, and she also held the position of attendance aide at the Cincinnatus Central School. Her professional life reflected her dedication and commitment to supporting her community.

Outside of work, Melissa was an enthusiastic Philadelphia Phillies baseball fan. She found joy and adventure in visiting Gettysburg, PA, with her family, embracing both the history and beauty of the sites. Her love for her hobbies provided her with immense happiness and was often a source of connection with those around her.

She leaves behind her loving husband Joseph Hummel, with whom she shared 16 meaningful years of marriage. Melissa is survived by her mother, Joanne Livermore of Cincinnatus; her sister Maria (Michael) Landon of Pine Bush; and her niece Kelly Landon and nephew Michael Landon II, also of Pine Bush. She is further survived by her mother-in-law, Elizabeth Hummel of Taylor; her sisters-in-law, Elizabeth (Shawn) Pittsley of Freeville and several brothers-in-law: Edward Hummel of Honey Brook, PA, Thomas (Patricia) Mulhern of Taylor, and Jason Hummel of Lawrenceville, GA. Close friends Crispian and Amber DeLarm and their children, Tristian and Tailynn of Cincinnatus, held a special place in her heart, as did her numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceding her in death was her father, Robert Livermore, who passed away on February 22, 2024.

In keeping with the wishes of the family, there will be no immediate services. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date and time to be announced. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Melissa may be directed to the Cortland County SPCA, 879 McLean Road, Cortland, NY 13045. Arrangements are under the care of the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY.

Melissa Hummel's indomitable spirit, fierce love for her family, and unwavering passion for life will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her. Her memory will live on through the love she shared and the moments she cherished.
