Exercise compliance isn’t just an important part of the rehab process but also after discharge from PT and living a good quality life! Muscle atrophy (muscle wasting/loss) doesn’t discriminate and can happen at any age, not just in the elderly. Muscle atrophy happens due to the lack of physical activity, whether it be from living a sedentary lifestyle, an injury/surgery or other health condition that has reduced physical demands (and improper nutrition) . It only takes 1-3 weeks for muscle strength to start to decline (losing your gains) if you don’t keep moving your body sufficiently.
