Hospice Care and Palliative Care Are the Same Thing

One of the most important hospice facts any patient should understand is that it is a different service from palliative care. Both palliative care and hospice care alleviate suffering and enhance the quality of life for patients and their loved ones, but hospice care is intended for patients with life-limiting diseases who are no longer pursuing curative treatment. Palliative care can begin as soon as the patient is diagnosed and may be given at the same time as treatment.

There is no “right” way to grieve. Everyone’s journey is different, and every emotion is valid. Give yourself permission to feel whatever comes, sadness, anger, confusion, even moments of peace.

Be gentle with yourself. Healing doesn’t have a timeline.

💙 What Do Hospice Social Workers Do? 💙
Hospice social workers support patients and families during one of life’s most difficult seasons, focusing on emotional, practical, and family needs.
✨ They help by:
• Providing emotional support and a safe space to talk
• Helping patients and families navigate end-of-life decisions
• Assisting with advance directives and care planning
• Connecting families to community and financial resources
• Supporting caregivers and family communication
Hospice social workers are advocates, guides, and compassionate listeners, helping patients live with dignity and families feel supported every step of the way.
🤍 Hospice care is about more than medical care. Social workers help care for the whole person.
