Washing Seed Starting Trays… Indoors

Would I recommend it?
Well… let’s just say I waited until my husband wasn’t home so I didn’t have to hear all the reasons why I shouldn’t be doing it inside 🙃

The process definitely took some effort, especially working in a small space. It was messy, dirty, and not exactly what you’d call a “quick job.”

That said, I did love being able to soak the trays in hot water + a little bleach. It made a huge difference and helped all that stuck-on dirt come off so much easier.

If I had to do it again… I probably would keep all the cleaning outside.

Lesson learned: clean trays shortly after transplanting seedlings and keep the mess outside.

Living and growing in Zone 5b means everything we do depends on the weather—and this year, it’s been a little bit of back and forth on how things are growing.

This winter has been a cold one, and it’s still holding on a bit longer than we’d like. While it can feel slow and frustrating, that’s actually just what tulips need.

Last year, we had an early warm-up that pushed the tulips to grow quickly. While that sounds like a good thing, it can sometimes lead to shorter stems—not ideal when you’re wanting those long stems.

This year, the cooler temperatures have kept things moving at a slower, steadier pace. The tulips are taking their time, building strong stems beneath the soil. Once the warmth finally arrives, it won’t take long at all and they’ll be blooming.

A good reminder that sometimes slower is better… especially when it comes to flowers 🌷

Spring is finally waking up and the flowers are just getting started!

One of the best ways to enjoy the season is by treating yourself (or someone special) to fresh flowers each week during our growing season. Our Flower Subscriptions are put together to bring the beauty of the farm straight to your home.

Each bouquet is made with flowers grown right here on our farm and picked at their best. No two weeks are the same-- just fresh, seasonal blooms to celebrate flower season!

Subscriptions also make thoughtful gifts for birthdays, Mother's Day, or just because.

🌸Limited quantities available once the season starts (especially for delivery)
🌸Delivery (Clare & Gladwin Area) or flower stand pick up
🌸Fresh, locally grown blooms each week during your flower subscription

Our seed lineup for the month 🌱

The grow room is about to start filling up over the next couple of months, tray by tray. It’s always exciting watching the tiny seeds turn into strong little seedlings under the lights.

Before long, these seedlings will be heading outside and planted out in the field for the season ahead. 🌸

Today is officially spring! 🌷

The days will slowly start getting warmer (hopefully — in Michigan you can never be too sure). Our tulips will begin growing a little more each day, and the farm will slowly come back to life after winter.

What better way to enjoy spring than a weekly flower bouquet? They also make the perfect gift for someone special.

The subscriptions begin which our tulips start blooming- usually around the end of April.

We offer delivery (Clare & Gladwin) or pickup at our flower stand located in Clare.

This year we’re offering a few different Spring Flower Subscriptions:
• Tulip Blooms Subscription – 3 bouquets
• Peony Blooms Subscription – 3 bouquets
• Ultimate Spring Blooms Subscription – 6 bouquets

Visit our website for more details or to place your order. We can’t wait to share another flower season with you! 🌸

Growing Snapdragons in Zone 5b 🌱

To get a good start, snapdragons should be started indoors under grow lights. I also recommend using a heat mat during germination. Some growers say it isn’t necessary—and I’ve tried both ways—but I’ve had much better success using a heat mat until the seeds sprout.

Once they’ve germinated, you can remove the heat mat and continue growing them under lights until it’s time to plant out.

Snapdragons can be planted outside around your last frost date since they tolerate cooler temperatures quite well. These early bloomers are a great way to kick off the flower season!
