Low Tunnel for Ranunculus 🌸

With Michigan weather (Zone 5b), our ranunculus need protection from the bitter cold until temperatures consistently stay above freezing.

This is the earliest I’ve planted them out—right after they started forming roots and before they emerged from the soil. I’m hoping this approach is a success because it meant less handling and no need to harden them off before planting.

Now they’re tucked under a low tunnel for protection while they continue developing.

Stay tuned to see how they grow this spring!

Starting dahlia seeds using the bag method 🌱

This is an easy way to see which seeds are viable before planting.

1️⃣ Soak a paper towel
2️⃣ Place your dahlia seeds on the towel and cover with another damp paper towel
3️⃣ Give it a light spray of water and seal it inside a bag
4️⃣ Place in a dark area for about 10 days
5️⃣ Check to see which seeds have germinated
6️⃣ Pot up the sprouted seeds into trays

It’s always exciting to see what new varieties might pop up

Yesterday was one of those March days — the sun felt like summer, but the wind was still holding on to winter. ☀️🌬️

I was able to clean the rest of our annual field. I always look forward to that fresh, clean start each season.

Fun fact: I’ve never planted my flower field the same way twice. Every year I try new flowers and different planting spots.

Feeling thankful for such a beautiful day in Michigan! The next few days won’t be quite as nice, so we’ll be shifting gears and starting more seeds indoors.

Lots of little things planned to get done this week at the flower farm. Here’s a look at what’s on the list:

• Plant ranunculus
• Lay fabric on the new perennial row
• Transplant some perennials
• Start planting indoor seeds
• Collect more dahlia seeds and start them in baggies (more to come on this!)

Warmer weather is slowly on its way, and each week the task list grows as we get ready for the 2026 flower season.

Collecting Dahlia Seeds 🌸

We let a few of our dahlia heads dry right on the plant, then harvested the seeds tucked inside. Each tiny seed holds the possibility of a brand new, never-seen-before bloom next season.

It’s one of my favorite parts of flower farming — saving a little piece of last year to grow again this year.

Stay tuned… we’ll see what surprises these seeds bring!

Goodbye February, Hello March 👋🏼

February was full of behind-the-scenes work here on the farm.

We started lots of ranunculus corms that will be planted out soon, and spent time creating dried floral bouquets from last year’s flower field.

We’ve also been perfecting our Bloom-inspired candles — which will be available soon!

Planning for the 2026 flower field is still underway… although no matter how much I plan, it always seems to come together once planting begins.

Dahlia tubers have been checked and will be coming out of storage very soon, and winter sowing has officially begun — hoping for a great outcome 🤞🏼

Now we welcome March with open arms. The grass starts turning greener, tulips begin to peek through the soil, and indoor seed starting season is just around the corner.

It all started with a few chickens… 🐓🌸

A flower farmer in Kansas from Vail Family Farms inspired me to take a chance on growing flowers. I stumbled across her Instagram and saw that she, too, had started with chickens before stepping into flower farming — without ever having grown flowers before.

I kept following along, soaking up every bit of knowledge and encouragement I could. Eventually, I realized… I just needed to go for it.

Now here I am with a growing flower farm, still pushing myself, still learning, and still embracing new challenges. This journey hasn’t just grown flowers — it’s helped me grow as a person.

Take the chance.
You never know what’s possible unless you try.

Hi! I’m Janelle, and this is my husband, Andy.
We’re the faces behind Brewer Blooms. What started as just an idea while we were living in town became a reality once we moved out to the country.

This will be our 4th year flower farming — and I say we because my husband plays a huge role behind the scenes. Each year we continue to dream up new ideas, expand, and grow, all thanks to the incredible support from our local community.

Here are a few things we offer:
🌸 U-Cuts (dates coming soon)
🌸 Private U-Cuts (5 or more guests)
🌸 Weekly Flower Subscriptions – receive one bouquet each week
🌸 Bloom Bar for events
🌸 Bloom Buckets – perfect for DIY arrangements
🌸 Photography opportunities

Our goal is simple:
To brighten people’s day, one bouquet at a time.
