CVAL Community Service Project
The residents chose to write thank-you notes and send a care box to our military troops.
We have several retired veterans who gave us a good list of items that our troops would appreciate, need, and use.
We gathered ALL KINDS of snacks, hygiene items, cards, notebooks, a football, a couple of frisbees, Chapstick, gum, single coffee packets, electrolyte packets, and many other items, including our thank you notes for their service cards.
I will add a note about who we are and include my cell number, and hopefully get a picture of the troop with the box they receive from us to share on our page. The residents were so excited about this project and are so thankful for our freedoms and those who fight for them.

Happy Easter from CVAL!
We had a visit from the Easter Bunny in the morning! Afterwards, we had a discussion about what Easter means to you.
In the pm we had our annual CVAL Easter Egg Hunt! There were candies, prizes, and money to be found in those eggs!
Many thanks to Linda Parker for stuffing 647 eggs once again for us. She has been doing it for some time now!
The residents truly get so excited about finding eggs and the special things that are in them!

We took a trip to the Hickory Museum of Art satellite gallery at the mall, as they are doing renovations at the main museum, where we met up with Jim Wojtowicz, the Customer Engagement Specialist.

The residents strolled around, looking and admiring the art displayed.
The artist of the month was Heba Kirolos, and we got to meet and talk with her. She was born in Egypt and spent fifteen years in Canada, where she earned her art degree before moving to North Carolina. She even joined us when Mr. Jim had the residents do an art project and gave them pointers. Their art projects turned out wonderfully, and they truly enjoy the whole experience!

Afterwards, we went to the food court to get some ice cream and experienced a new, different kind of ice cream. Flat, rolled, and made on a cold surface. The residents were in awe, but enjoyed their tasty new treat.

CVAL Cooking Club
Today we made Musubi...a food staple in Hawaii, which we learn about during our Luau. It is fried spam and sticky rice rolled up in a seaweed sushi wrap. The residents had fun making them but...while some enjoyed the roll , others didn't like the sushi seaweed wrap Too fishy tasting for them! But it's always good to try something new and different from other cultures. It was a good, fun, learning experience!

Happy St. Patrick's Day from CVAL!
We had a very busy day with crafts in the am and partying in the afternoon!
The residents did a great job making tissue paper shamrocks for their doors. They all did a great job creating their shamrocks masterpieces.
In the afternoon we enjoy homemade green Rice Krispy treats and pigs in a blanket while learning was Irish Folklore and then watching the Riverdance. We even had a leprechaun show up to the festivities!
