Interesting idea, especially in relation to ancestral spirit work….

A common assumption is that throughout history, people have experienced the same basic range of emotions. A radical field of history now challenges this assumption, Gal Beckerman reports. https://theatln.tc/93LEvySV

People tend to imagine that other people ā€œhave the exact same set of emotions that we have,ā€ Beckerman writes. ā€œWe perform this projection on any number of human experiences: losing a child, falling ill, being bored at work. We assume that emotions in the past are accessible because we assume that at their core, people in the past were just like us, with slight tweaks for their choice of hats and of personal hygiene.ā€

Rob Boddice, a leader in the field of the history of emotions and senses, mistrusts this universalism, a philosophy that emerged during the Enlightenment, when European intellectuals began to assume that all people share a common nature. Many critics now understand that they were attempting to exert power and order over a world that had recently become bigger and stranger. ā€œBy the time we get to our current globalized culture, in which a Korean thriller can win Best Picture at the Oscars and Latin pop stars dominate the U.S. charts, the notion that our emotional registers are all essentially alike feels self-evident,ā€ Beckerman continues.

ā€œBoddice starts with the opposite premise, that we are not the same,ā€ Beckerman writes. ā€œRather than being a constant—extending across space and time—human nature for Boddice is a variable and unstable category, one with infinite possible shades.ā€

Although his approach might seem ā€œsquishy and postmodern,ā€ Beckerman writes, Boddice’s research layers his own thinking on top of the most recent advances in neuroscience.

I ran across this collection of emotional growth resources. If you feel emotional/mental health support is inaccessible, or that you’re not sure where to start with learning how to do new things, there’s some interesting free resources here, AND on their YouTube channel. Their YouTube videos are short, easy to digest. (It’s funny that stoicism is the most prominent word here, but they offer a lot of different digestible topics.)

There’s a lot of made up stuff out there on the internet, about a lot of traditions. Here’s an update on some details relating to Christmas trees. This creator is also a great resource, in general (they do real research, not the ā€œI saw some poorly sourced videos online,ā€ kind.)

So this gorgeous artichoke…plants are amazing 🌿

Bees swarm to the purple bloom an artichoke becomes when its tight bud is left to open, revealing a striking thistle that most people never see.

A simple vegetable turns into a vivid garden display once given the chance.

Who I am and what I do.

Hello, friends.

Welcome to one of the dearest parts of who I am and what I do. Many people who knew me for a long time didn’t know that I dabbled in the metaphysical arts. I’ve always had certain abilities, and that’s not unusual, in my family. At times, it’s been more promiment than others. In 2017, traumatic events occured in my life, events which turned my life upside down. One of the curious results of this series of events was what I call a ā€œtrauma triggered attunement.ā€ The psychic and mediumship abilities that I had all along were suddenly amplified, exponentially. I think this makes sense, after all, the human body and mind can exhibit a wide range of adaptive reactions to trauma. It makes sense to me (and to several psychologists, with whom I’ve spoken about this) that amplified psychic abilities could be a normal human response to trauma. And so, here I am, with an unusually keen ability to read the unseen forces of the Universe, and to help other trauma survivors process and understand their own experiences. I love what I do. What do I do? Psychic and mediumship readings, using tarot cards as my diving board into the unknown. I use the cards to tell the story of your upcoming forecast - and how the present and the future relate to your past (and how your present and future can help to heal your past.) I am also a reiki practitioner and energy worker - and I love using these tools to help people with everything from relaxation, to removal of energetic attachments, and chakra blockages. Unusual attachments and blockages are a bit of a specialty of mine. Welcome, and please ask any questions you wish, I welcome them. -- Katy Swallow
