At the Russell J. Salvatore Outpatient Therapy Clinic, many people tell us they hesitate to use a cane because they โdonโt want to look like they need help.โ But in reality, ๐ ๐๐๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ง ๐ก๐๐ฅ๐ฉ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ ๐ฐ๐๐ฅ๐ค ๐๐๐ญ๐ญ๐๐ซ, ๐ฌ๐๐๐๐ซ, ๐๐ง๐ ๐ฐ๐ข๐ญ๐ก ๐ฆ๐จ๐ซ๐ ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐๐จ๐ซ๐ญ.
When pain or weakness in one leg causes you to shift your weight away from it, your walking pattern becomes what we call an ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐โoften noticed as a ๐ฅ๐ข๐ฆ๐ฉ or โ๐๐ซ๐๐ ๐ ๐ข๐ง๐ /๐ก๐๐๐ฏ๐ฒ ๐ฅ๐๐ .โ This can put added stress on your back, hips, and the opposite leg.
