A baby's development can be much different than any other baby. If you've heard it once, you've heard it multiple times. No two babies are the same. Raise you hand if you agree 🙋🏼‍♀️

First, what is a milestone? A milestone is a major achievement. This includes: rolling over, crawling, walking, standing, sitting up, talking, etc.

These are the milestones that I am looking for during the ages of 7-12 months:
⭐️Turning and looking in direction of sound
⭐️Turns at the sound of name
⭐️Starts to respond to simple words and phrases
⭐️Babbles long string of sounds
⭐️Uses sounds and gestures to get attention
⭐️Uses gestures like waving bye, reaching for "up"

Providing a language rich environment for your baby helps these early language skills emerge.

Waiting on her turn for swimming lessons! 🌟

As a speech therapist, carrying books in the car is not something I made a habit of until now! I have started keeping 2-3 books in our basket in the car to have for times when we have "down time".

While we are waiting on big sister at horseback lessons or waiting our turn for swimming lessons, books have been our go to.

Recent research showed that infants who are read seven books or more a week scored higher on expressive, receptive, and combined language at 9 months.

Play-based therapy is a valuable therapeutic approach for children because it utilizes the natural language of play to facilitate healing, growth, and change. Here are several reasons why play-based therapy is useful:

🌟Developmentally appropriate: Play is the primary mode of communication and exploration for children. It aligns with their developmental stage and allows them to express their thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a non-threatening and familiar way. Play-based therapy respects and utilizes the natural tendencies of children, making it highly effective.
🌟Emotional expression: Play provides a safe and non-directive space for children to express their feelings and experiences. Through various play activities, such as drawing, storytelling, or role-playing, children can externalize and explore their emotions, often revealing underlying issues that may be difficult to express through traditional talk therapy alone.
🌟Cognitive and social development: Play-based therapy promotes cognitive and social development. Through play, children can enhance their problem-solving skills, creativity, imagination, and decision-making abilities. Additionally, play provides opportunities for practicing social interactions, improving communication skills, and developing empathy and cooperation.
