Our "I Can Cook" program is all about empowering adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities with essential life skills—like preparing simple, healthy meals, practicing kitchen safety, and making confident food choices.

Recently, FCHS County Agent Luanne Fried Hughes had the opportunity to bring this program to the residents at The Residences at South College Drive, where participants rolled up their sleeves and got hands-on in the kitchen. The excitement, teamwork, and pride in what they created was incredible to see.

Programs like "I Can Cook" matter because cooking isn’t just about food—it’s about independence, confidence, and quality of life. When individuals gain the skills to prepare their own meals, they’re also building decision-making skills, self-sufficiency, and healthier habits that can last a lifetime.

Big things are happening in New Jersey with the debut of Universal Pre-K! 🎉 This is a major step forward in giving our youngest learners a strong start—but supporting their success goes beyond the classroom.

Families play a key role, and simple, everyday habits can make a big difference. Nutritious meals, healthy snacks, and consistent routines help children stay focused, energized, and ready to learn. 🍎

To support parents in this journey, County Extension Agent Luanne Fried Hughes recently presented Build a Better Bagged School Lunch, sharing practical tips and strategies for packing balanced, appealing meals that fuel learning and healthy growth for preschoolers.

As we celebrate this exciting milestone, let’s continue to support families with easy, realistic strategies—like encouraging kids to try new foods and building healthy habits early—that set children up for success in school and beyond.
