Hey, Elevation Fam!
You are an amazing group of individuals, and you do amazing things. One reason why we love Clarksville is because of the amazing individuals who live here and our sense of community. I know you feel it too. Thatâs why we like to do our part to support this community whenever we can. Our effort this month is focused on saving lives by keeping our hospitals full with a safe and adequate blood supply. Each year we partner with Blood Assurance, our Middle Tennessee community blood bank, to hold a blood drive and invite all of you amazing individuals to support our hospitals and local patients by signing up for an appointment to donate blood.
Blood Assurance is the main supplier for Vanderbilt (our Vanderbilt/former Tennova too!), TriStar hospitals, all of middle Tennesseeâs childrenâs hospitals, LifeFlight and AirEvac, and half of the St. Thomas group. Pretty much anywhere that anyone of us might go. Blood supplies have been critically and chronically low since the January ice storms and we need your help!
There are many people who used to donate, many who think they are not able to donate, and many who just think everyone else is donating and taking care of the need. The truth is, donation is down overall while the need for blood continues to rise. We know about the accidents and traumas that require transfusion, but it is easy to forget the many other reasons why everyday folks may need blood as an on-going need or an occasional occurrence.
Sickle cell patients, cancer patients, giving birth, severe forms of anemiaâŠall of these patients need blood to get well, to get through treatment, to live another day, week, month or years. Moreover, you might have the rare blood type that is the perfect match for another rare blood type recipient, or a premature baby.
One such regular recipient is Emily Rodgers, a little girl from Middle Tennessee who has received over 190 blood transfusionsâand every one of them has helped her keep fighting. She suffers from a defect to her red blood cells that require a transfusion every 21 days. Her family travels to Nashville where she receives her transfusions at Vanderbilt Childrenâs Hospital, one of the hospitals we proudly supply with blood thanks to donors like you.
We are holding a blood drive on Thursday, March 12 in front of our office on the Blood Assurance Bloodmobile and we need donors to fill up our appointment slots so we can make a good collection, reach our goal for the hospitals, and support our community of local patients. It is open to the public, anyone can sign up! Will you sign up and share this email among your circles of friends and family and ask them to come out and support patients like Emily by donating Thursday and once every quarter? Even if you canât donate, you can still invite others to support our efforts.
