In January 2024, Southern Family Medicine in Claxton proudly partnered with The Medical College of Georgia (Augusta University) and HamesNet, a research department named after a prominent physician in Claxton’s history, Dr. Hames, to participate in a groundbreaking research study on elevated blood pressure in rural healthcare and access to medical devices.

📊 In Evans County, an astounding 68.5% of residents aged 30–69 live with a diagnosis of hypertension. Through this partnership, we’ve been able to provide free blood pressure cuffs, along with monthly follow-up calls and monitoring, to help our patients take control of their health and improve long-term outcomes.

This partnership has also expanded to include medical students with an interest in research and rural healthcare from The Medical College of Georgia, who will train at Southern Family Medicine as part of their rural healthcare education, continuing the mission of advancing medical care and research right here in our community.

🏆 We’re honored to share that Southern Family Medicine was selected as the recipient of the 2025 HamesNet CHART Award!
This award recognizes our commitment to improving the health and well-being of Georgia communities through real-world clinical research that directly enhances everyday patient care.
