In January 2024, Southern Family Medicine in Claxton proudly partnered with The Medical College of Georgia (Augusta University) and HamesNet, a research department named after a prominent physician in Claxton’s history, Dr. Hames, to participate in a groundbreaking research study on elevated blood pressure in rural healthcare and access to medical devices.

📊 In Evans County, an astounding 68.5% of residents aged 30–69 live with a diagnosis of hypertension. Through this partnership, we’ve been able to provide free blood pressure cuffs, along with monthly follow-up calls and monitoring, to help our patients take control of their health and improve long-term outcomes.

This partnership has also expanded to include medical students with an interest in research and rural healthcare from The Medical College of Georgia, who will train at Southern Family Medicine as part of their rural healthcare education, continuing the mission of advancing medical care and research right here in our community.

🏆 We’re honored to share that Southern Family Medicine was selected as the recipient of the 2025 HamesNet CHART Award!
This award recognizes our commitment to improving the health and well-being of Georgia communities through real-world clinical research that directly enhances everyday patient care.

Dear Patient,
We want to take a moment to clear up some confusion regarding recent communications you may have received about Dr. Glen Dasher’s upcoming changes in practice. This DOES NOT affect the patients of Dr. Thomas J. Miller Jr., in our Claxton location.

After more than 27 years of caring for patients at Southern Family Medicine, Dr. Dasher has decided to affiliate with MDVIP, a national program that allows physicians to provide more personalized, wellness-focused care. Through MDVIP, Dr. Dasher will be able to spend more time with each patient and offer in-depth evaluations of key health areas such as weight, metabolism, diabetes risk, nutrition, cardiovascular health, sleep, and emotional well-being.

In addition, MDVIP membership offers conveniences including:
Same- or next-day appointments
Longer appointment times
Telehealth visits
Direct access to Dr. Dasher after hours and on weekends

There is a membership fee required to participate in the MDVIP program. Some patients have understandably been concerned that this might be a scam. Please be assured that this is not the case. MDVIP is a reputable, established program, and this change reflects Dr. Dasher’s desire to both serve his patients more personally and make changes in his own life after decades of very busy practice. We also want to make it very clear:
This change applies ONLY to Dr. Glen Dasher. No other Southern Family Medicine providers are affiliated with MDVIP. If you want to continue seeing Dr. Dasher, you will need to join the MDVIP program.
If you choose not to join, you do not need to leave Southern Family Medicine. You may continue your care with any of our other providers in either of our offices.
We are fortunate to have a strong team of providers who are ready to care for you.

This is a collaboration with MDVIP. You DO NOT have to leave Southern Family Medicine.
