This month is Women's History Month. In recognition of this we wanted to give you a little story of some of the influential women of the First Responder world and our women here at Clay County EMS.
Starting with EMS, Lady Dorothie Feilding, Elsie Knocker, and Mairi Chisholm where volunteer nurse's and ambulance drivers on the Western Front during World War 1. They received numerous medals for bravery and saving thousands of soldiers on the Western Front in Belgium.
Molly Williams, an African-American woman enslaved in New York City, is recognized as the first known female firefighter in the U.S., joining Oceanus Engine Company #11 around 1815 and serving during the 1818 blizzard.
Marie Owen's, is frequently cited as the first female police officer in the U.S., she was assigned as a patrolman by the Chicago Police Department to enforce child labor laws, serving for 32 years. During her career as a female officer, she helped thousands of women and children. She retired in 1923 after 32 years with the department.
Now, we would like to take a moment and recognize our Women here at Clay County EMS.
Angie Parsell started at Clay County EMS in 2020. She is our supply Manager, aka, "Supply Lady". She makes sure that the station is well stocked, along with the ambulances. Angie was also awarded the 2025 KEMSA BLS provider of the year for Kansas. Angie plans on attending training for her Advanced Certification.
Barbara Muench started at Clay County EMS in March of 2022. She obtained her Advanced Certification in December of 2022.
Julie Ryals-Browne started at Clay County EMS in August of 2022 and then obtained her Advanced Certification in May of 2024. She is currently in the process of becoming a CPR instructor.
Bailey Cameron started at Clay County EMS in June of 2023. She obtained her Basic Certification in May of 2023. Bailey is a Car Seat Technician and a CPR Instructor. She also takes care of the AED'S that you see around Clay Center. She plans on attending training for a Fire Science Degree in the future.
Katie Finkbiner started at Clay County EMS in July of 2023. She obtained her Basic Certification in May of 2023 and then her Advanced Certification in May of 2024. She is a Car Seat Technician, and just newly certified CPR Instructor. Katie was just recently accepted into the Nursing program at Cloud County Community College.
Ambur Everett has been our billing clerk and health insurance warrior since January of 2023. She obtained her Basic Certification in 2005. She previously worked at Clay County Medical Center as a Biller.
