Cold & Flu Season: What to Know About OTC Medications ❄️🤧
During cold and flu season, many people reach for over-the-counter medicines — but some can cause drowsiness, dry mouth, upset stomach, or constipation.
Here’s how to stay safe and feel better:
• Drowsiness: Nighttime formulas can make you sleepy — take them before bed and get extra rest.
• Upset Stomach: Take medicines with bland foods like crackers or toast (unless the label says otherwise).
• Dry Mouth/Nose: Stay hydrated and use a humidifier or saline spray to ease dryness.
• Constipation: Drink fluids and add fiber (beans, greens, or a fiber supplement).
⚠️ For children: Avoid OTC cough/cold meds in kids under 4. Ages 4–6 should only use them if directed by a doctor.
When to call your doctor: If side effects are severe, worsen, or don’t go away.
