Can the vaccine give you Covid-19?
No, the vaccine might make your arm sore or make you feel tired for a day, but it CANNOT give you Covid-19.
The mRNA vaccines don’t have any live virus, they work by teaching our cells to make a harmless piece of “spike protein” found on the surface of the virus that causes Covid-19. After making the protein piece, cells display it on their surface. Our immune system recognizes that it does not belong there and responds to get rid of it. When an immune response begins, antibodies are produced, creating the same response that happens in a natural infection.

Why Should You Get Your Child Vaccinated?
Even though kids are less likely to die from Covid-19, it is still a possibility, and they could also get very sick, especially if they have another health condition. Kids can also spread it to other people who are at higher risk. Studies show vaccinated people are 8 times less likely to be infected and 25 times less likely to be hospitalized or die. Additionally, we do not know all the effects of Covid-19, and kids may end up with short or long term effects after getting covid.

Is the vaccine safe?
Yes, mRNA vaccines have been worked on for decades, meaning it has been tested and is safe. The Pfizer vaccine has been fully approved by the FDA, and the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines have both been emergency approved. All 3 vaccines went through all phases of clinical trials needed, they just all happened at the same time to make the process faster.

How do the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines work? Pfizer and Moderna use something called mRNA, which tells your body how to recognize and fight the virus by showing it the spikes on the outside of the virus. That way, you’re ready if you’re exposed to the virus later. Info from www.cdc.gov.
