I have been asked if I provide Deep tissue. And the answer is Absolutely! I can also provide deep pressure.
Did you know that Deep tissue is not the same as Deep pressure? Some people use these interchangeably. They sound similar, but they’re actually a bit different.
Here’s the breakdown:
🟢 Deep Tissue Massage
The goal is to address specific muscle tension, adhesions (“knots”), and restrictions in the deeper layers of muscle and fascia.
The techniques used are usually slow, neuromuscular focused techniques including compression, myofascial release, friction, and sometimes tools are incorporated to reach the deeper layers.
The therapeutic approach: the therapist works methodically to release chronic tension or correct dysfunction.
Pressure: Can vary — not always “deep.” It’s about precision and depth, not force.
🟢 Deep Pressure Massage
The goal is to provide a firmer, more intense version of a relaxation or Swedish-style massage.
The techniques used are similar strokes as Swedish (effleurage, petrissage, etc.), just with more weight and consistent firm pressure.
The approach is more comfort-focused. This is for someone who enjoys the heavier pressure, but it’s not necessarily the corrective work.
Pressure: Uniformly firm throughout, but not necessarily targeted to deep tissue layers.
In short:
Deep tissue = focused therapeutic work on specific problem areas.
If you'd like deep tissue please let your therapist know you are looking for more focused work.
Deep pressure = firm pressure for relaxation and preference.
If you'd like heavier pressure please let your therapist know you are looking for heavier pressure because you enjoy the pressure.
We encourage you to share feedback with your therapist before, during, and after your treatment. Your input allows us to customize your session for the best possible results.
