What is the FODMAP protocol & why might it matter for IBS?
FODMAPs are fermentable carbohydrates that can trigger bloating, gas, and digestive discomfort in some people.

The Low FODMAP approach isn’t meant to be a long-term diet, it’s a short-term protocol used to identify your personal triggers so you can feel your best.

At McDaniel Nutrition Therapy, Low FODMAP support is led by a dietitian trained through Monash University, with our team collaborating to ensure care is personalized, practical, and sustainable.

Not everyone needs this approach, and the goal isn’t restriction, it’s clarity, confidence, and long-term flexibility with food.

If you’re wondering whether this approach is right for you, we’re here to help you figure out your next best step.

At McDaniel Nutrition Therapy, we get the appeal of supplements.

The idea that you could add one thing and feel better, sleep better, have more energy… it’s incredibly tempting. And honestly, it’s something we’ve done ourselves.

But here’s what we keep coming back to:
✨ Most of us don’t need more supplements
✨ We can benefit with consistency from the basics

Are supplements ever helpful? Absolutely.
But they’re the support act, not the headliner.

Before adding something new, Jen offers a series of questions to consider like:
👉 What am I actually hoping this will fix?
👉 Is there something more foundational being skipped?

She wrote more about this (including what supplements might be worth considering + what tends to miss the mark) in this week’s Substack.

If you’ve ever felt pulled into the “this might be the thing” cycle… this one’s for you.

April is IBS Awareness Month, and one thing we see often is how tricky it can feel to talk about IBS and or what one can eat in everyday situations.

A simple one-liner or elevator pitch can take some of that pressure off, especially socially, when you don’t feel like explaining everything.

If we had a penny for how often someone said,
“I started taking a few supplements… but I’m not exactly sure why.”

Supplement companies are really good at pulling at our vulnerabilities.

And there absolutely is a place for supplements.
But more often than not, many are unnecessary… and expensive and sometimes not even safe.

Before reaching for something new, it can be helpful to pause and get curious about the why behind the buy.

A few questions our team often considers:

✅ What am I hoping will feel different if I take this?
✅ What is the evidence—and who might benefit from my purchase?
✅ Could I support this through food, sleep, or daily rhythm first?
✅ Do I know what’s in this supplement and the role it plays in my health?
✅ Has this been third-party tested?

We’re not anti-supplement, we use them too.
But taking a pause to understand motivation, outcomes, and safety can go a long way.

As we wrap up National Nutrition Month, we want to offer a quiet reminder…
quite often, we don’t need more nutrition information.

Yes, nutrition science is always evolving, and curiosity about your health is a good thing. But there’s a threshold where too much external input starts to create overwhelm instead of clarity.

How do you know you’ve crossed it?
You can feel it.
It starts to feel like you’re not getting it right… or like you’re constantly unsettled.

Our team helps you sort through the noise—but more importantly, we help you come back to yourself.
To tune in. To sense what actually feels right for you.

No endless podcasts, TikToks, or someone else’s testimonial required.

And from that place, nutrition can start to feel simpler, clearer, and a lot more sustainable.

Spring often brings a little more energy to care for ourselves.

But what about how we care for our thoughts about our bodies?

This morning on , Jen sat down with to talk about body image and shared 3 subtle areas to consider:
🌷Spring clean your closet → choose clothes that help you feel comfortable, calm, and confident.
🪻Shift the focus from how your body looks to what it does for you.
🌸Spring clean your social media → curate a space that supports more compassion and contentment.

You can catch the full segment in stories 🪻🌸🌷

It’s not anyone’s fault that they give a number so much power.

For a long time, we’ve been taught that body weight is one of the main ways to measure health and success. But we are learning that obsessing about weight is not only harmful for our mental health, it also isn’t scientific…

If stepping on the scale leaves you questioning yourself, it might be worth setting it aside and finding other ways to understand your health.

Your energy, strength, sleep, labs, and daily habits often tell a much fuller story.

And most importantly, your relationship with your body matters the most.

Spring cleaning isn’t just for closets.

As the weather warms and layers come off, something else tends to show up too: a little more noise from diet culture and body comparison.

In this week’s Substack, Jen share’s a few curious ways to “spring clean” the places body image sneakily shows up in everyday life.

Closets.
Social media feeds.
And even the way we think about and notice our bodies.

And interestingly, one of the most powerful places to start is something many of us interact with every single day! 👗👚👖

For National Nutrition Month, we thought we’d share some of our team’s favorite health and wellness podcasts!

While research and clinical experience guide the work we do with clients, we’re also constantly learning from other thoughtful voices in the health and wellness space.

Podcasts are such a wonderful way to learn while walking, driving, cooking dinner, or simply taking a moment for yourself.

March is National Nutrition Month, and this week we celebrate National Registered Dietitian Day. 🎉

Jen thought she’d share a few of her favorite wellness staples: small things that make routines a little easier (and always more delicious).

From a cozy afternoon tea to a travel-friendly breakfast bar and a smoothie blend that actually keeps her satisfied, these are a few things she reaches for, on the regular.

If you’re curious, check out her favorites over on the McDaniel Nutrition blog.

For National Nutrition Month we asked people to send in their nutrition questions.

You asked:
“Are protein bars and shakes actually okay?”
Short answer: yes.

But we tend to think about protein options in two broad categories:
whole-food proteins and protein products, each with different trade-offs in nutrient density, cost, and convenience.

Sharing that framework here. month
