There’s a common misconception that oppositions in astrology are nothing more than a tug‑of‑war—an endless friction that never resolves. On the surface, that can appear true, but the reality is far more nuanced, especially depending on which planets are involved.

Take Mercury, for example.
When Mercury is in opposition, it doesn’t usually get drowned out by the other planet’s energy. If anything, Mercury becomes sharper, louder, and more activated.

People with Mercury oppositions often describe their mind as if it’s sitting in a debate club, trying to make sense of competing truths being shouted across the room. Growth absolutely happens for them—but it tends to come through tension, contrast, or situations that force negotiation. Their self‑awareness is earned through a mind that’s constantly in dialogue with itself.

It’s common to hear them say things like:
- “I can see both sides.”
- “My mind never shuts off.”
- “I argue with myself a lot.”

If you’re someone who gets defensive quickly, or you find yourself over‑explaining because you’ve often felt misunderstood, I’d bet good money you have a Mercury opposition somewhere in your chart.

This urge to clarify, justify, or challenge assumptions is a signature of the aspect.

I bring all this up because we’re heading into Mercury retrograde for the first time this year. It might be helpful to look at your chart and see what’s sitting across the table from Mercury. Instead of viewing it as a combatant, imagine it as two friends sitting down to hash out why each one believes they’re right. That shift alone can change how you navigate the retrograde entirely.

The entrance into the fire horse for this lady has not been pleasant, honestly... I woke up today, though, with a little more optimism and a chance to catch my breath while playing with this "new deck to me."( Not a new deck at all. It's been out for a decade.) .... It has most certainly given me a little bounce in my step.

The idea of having a playing card deck that can also be read as tarot isn't exactly revolutionary at this point. Although, when Caitlin did it almost a decade ago, it kind of was.

I have missed out on this deck for years because while I have been repeatedly drawn to the box itself, when I found out there were only 53 cards I quickly dismissed it— I'm a bit of a tarot snob... A tarot deck of 78 cards is the standard and decks with less are typically simply nice oracles. ... The only other deck that I have given a pass to this instance was The Psychic Tarot but it clearly does call itself an oracle deck....

The other day, for some reason, I decided to give it a fair chance, read the description, and understood that she incorporated the 22 major Arcana into the illustrations of the cards. So, nearly half the deck serves dual purposes — for example, the Four of Spades also represents the Death card, the Ten of Spades stands for Judgment, and the Two of Cups also embodies Temperance... Leaving it up to the cartomancer which of those energies might actually be coming through.

Many of these associations work well together though as the pairings are in some way connected in their energy, purpose, and vibe. The only thing 'missing' from this deck seems to be Pages then. But I don't really think that's entirely true, because the Jacks embody both Page and Knight — that young, naive court energy that later gets upgraded by Kings and Queens. One of the best illustrations of this is where you look at the Jack and Queen of Spades, showing, even without it being explicitly stated in the guidebook, a young Joan of Arc versus the mature Joan of Arc.

This deck will quickly be incorporated into a Mystic Mondays, and there will be a special posting in Cartomancy Corner on the blog so I can tell you all the reasons I adore this deck!

Stay tuned 😊🙌

I turn to tarot often. In my times of peace, in my times of joy — but never has it been more important than in my times of sadness. When I'm wary and hope seems fleeting. The 78 are there to offer scaffolding to a heart broken by oh so many things.

Pisces is famously ruled by Neptune, but the two fishes that symbolize this sign actually trace their origins back to a myth involving Venus and Cupid.

According to the story, Venus—the goddess of love and beauty—and her son Cupid were walking along the Euphrates River when Typhon, a monstrous being with a hundred dragon heads, blazing eyes, and a voice that hissed and roared, suddenly appeared. Terrified and unable to escape, Venus called out to her father, Jupiter. In an instant, Jupiter transformed both her and Cupid into fish, allowing them to leap into the river and flee to safety.

Another version tells a gentler tale: two courageous fish sprang from the river to rescue Venus and Cupid, carrying them on their backs through the rushing water until they reached safety. As a reward for their bravery, Minerva placed the pair of fish among the stars, where they became the constellation Pisces.

As for which version I believe—it's the latter. That story highlights one creature stepping in to help another, and if there’s anything Pisces is known for, it’s their deep, instinctive empathy.

The New Moon on February 17 arrives in Aquarius as an annular solar eclipse, a rare alignment made possible because the Sun and Moon meet precisely at 28° of Aquarius. Not every Aquarian New Moon becomes an eclipse, but this one carries that extra charge of revelation and reset.

Aquarius New Moons—typically falling between late January and mid‑February—also usher in the Chinese New Year, a season that naturally draws us toward community. This is collective, humanitarian energy at its finest. If you only declutter once a year, this is the moment to donate, share, and circulate what you no longer need. Acts of generosity align beautifully with this lunation’s spirit.

I’ve always found it amusing that Valentine’s Day sits in Aquarius season, a zodiac known for its detachment. Why place a holiday centered on romantic coupling inside a sign that rarely clings? But this year something clicked: we fall in love when we witness someone’s real, unfiltered self—the quirks, the oddities, the authentic spark. That is pure Aquarius. It’s not about emotional theatrics; it’s about truth. We don’t fall for masks. We fall for what’s unmistakably genuine.

If your vision has felt foggy or you’ve been stuck in a slump, this solar eclipse could be a turning point. Aquarius pushes us toward inventive solutions—ideas that bend the rules, approaches that break the mold. Progress comes through originality.

Over the next week, ask yourself: Are you giving yourself room to express your most authentic, unconventional self, or are you shrinking to fit a version of “normal” you think will make life easier? Growing up teaches us that forcing ourselves into a box is often far harder than simply being who we are.
