Some fascinating facts about water:
1. Water helps to lose weight. Drinking water can help you lose weight in several ways. First, water has no calories but it fills the stomach and causes you to be less hungry and eat less. A study presented in 2010 at a conference of the American Chemical Society found that people on a diet who drank two glasses of water before each meal lost more weight than people on a similar diet who did not drink water before meals.
In addition, water can improve the rate of metabolism in the body.
Even mild dehydration can lower a person's metabolism by up to three percent.
In 2011, researchers from the 'Hadassah Medical Center' in Jerusalem published a study in which overweight children were asked to drink water - a few minutes after drinking, an increase in the body's metabolic rate was observed, which reached its peak an hour later and was increased by 25% of the initial, value.
2. Thirst may be interpreted as hunger.
Symptoms of dehydration - such as weakness, nausea and dizziness - are very similar to those of hunger, so these two sensations can be confused. The body has mechanisms that activate the thirst center when you lose about one to two percent of body fluids. Therefore, even before the feeling of thirst develops, symptoms such as weakness, headache or nausea may appear, which will sometimes be interpreted as hunger. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that they mistake it for hunger.
3. The number 1 cause of fatigue.
Lack of water is the number 1 cause of fatigue during the day. Beyond fatigue, a two percent decrease in the amount of water in the body can cause confusion in short-term memory, problems with simple arithmetic and difficulty focusing in front of a computer screen or a printed page.
4. Water may prevent back pain.
The discs between the vertebrae of the spine are made mostly of water. If there is a lack of water in the body, the discs may shrink and the space between the vertebrae will decrease. Studies show that eight to ten glasses of water a day can significantly relieve joint and back pain in up to 80%.
5. Water may prevent heart attacks.
During the night we don't drink and the blood becomes more viscous. In patients with sclerosis and narrowing of blood vessels, the viscous blood flows more slowly and there is a higher risk that clots will form that will cause blockage of the blood vessels and the development of a heart attack or stroke. Indeed, these events are common in the early hours of the morning.
A study published in 2005 in the journal ‘Nihon Ronen Igakkai Zasshi’ found that drinking five glasses of water every day reduces the risk of having a heart attack by 41ֵ% (compared to those who drink less than two glasses of water a day).
6. Water may relieve stomach aches.
In many cases it can be alleviated in less than 20 minutes.
