Christmas is almost here… a season filled with lights, music, excitement, and joy.
But while some are celebrating, others are quietly struggling. The holidays can bring stress, loneliness, financial pressure, grief, depression, and memories that feel heavier this time of year.

💛 You never know what someone is carrying.
A smile can hide heartbreak.
Politeness can hide anxiety.
Laughter can hide loneliness.
Strength can hide exhaustion.

Here are simple ways to show kindness this Christmas week (and always):

When you’re stressed, what do you do to relieve it?

We all have our go-to habits — some healthy, some… well… not so much. 😅
And when stress piles up, it’s easy to fall into coping behaviors that actually make depression and anxiety worse.

🚫 Not-so-healthy stress “relievers”
Sure, they feel good in the moment, but long-term they can increase stress, deepen depression, and drain your energy:
• Isolating from everyone
• Overeating or skipping meals
• Sleeping all day
• Scrolling endlessly
• Drinking “just to unwind”
• Avoiding responsibilities
• Negative self-talk
• Overworking to escape feelings

The truth is… stress is real, and mental health matters. But there are healthier ways to cope.

💚 Healthy Stress-Relief Activities
These small shifts can actually help your brain reset and recover:
• Going for a walk or getting fresh air
• Talking to someone you trust
• Journaling
• Doing a hobby that makes you feel good
• Listening to music
• Practicing mindfulness or deep breathing
• Setting boundaries and saying “no”
• Stretching, yoga, or light exercise

🎉 Happy Friday, friends!
The weekend is so close we can practically smell the coffee we plan to drink at noon… because let’s be honest — it’s been a BUSY time of year and we are all just… tired. 😩

Shutting off alarms?
Sleeping in?
Not speaking to anyone until you’ve rebooted your soul?
✨ Sounds magical. ✨

And guess what?
It’s okay to rest. Your body needs recovery. Your mind needs downtime. We ALL need a little “do not disturb” moment sometimes. 😴💤

Starting TMS can feel overwhelming, but we make the process smooth, supportive, and clear. Here’s how your journey unfolds:

1️⃣ Complimentary Consult
You’ll meet with our TMS Coordinator, Hirely, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
During this consult, you’ll learn about our program, ask questions, and we’ll gather the info needed to submit an authorization request to your insurance.

2️⃣ Insurance Authorization
We handle the paperwork!
Once we obtain your insurance authorization, we’ll schedule your evaluation and mapping appointments.

3️⃣ TMS Evaluation
You’ll meet with Dr. Rizzo for a complete psychiatric evaluation.
This helps ensure TMS is the right treatment for you and allows us to create a personalized care plan.

4️⃣ Mapping Appointment
Dr. Rizzo determines your exact treatment location and TMS energy dose requirements.
This process takes about 30–45 minutes and may occur on the same day as your evaluation or be scheduled separately.

5️⃣ Begin TMS Treatment
You can start as soon as the next day after mapping! 🎉

6️⃣ Your TMS Course
You’ll complete 36 daily treatments, Monday through Friday.
You’ll have a check-in with Dr. Rizzo about halfway through your treatment, and a follow-up appointment with Hirely will be scheduled afterward for continued support.

✨ What to Expect on Day One of TMS at TMS Advantage ✨

Your first day is all about understanding your brain, personalizing your treatment, and setting you up for success. Here’s what happens:

🧠 1. Psych Evaluation
You’ll meet with our provider to review your history, symptoms, and goals. This helps us confirm that TMS is the right treatment for you and tailor your care plan.

🌀 2. Motor Threshold Determination (Mapping)
This is how we determine your prescribed dose and exact treatment location for the best clinical outcomes.

Here’s what happens during mapping:

Our provider takes precise measurements to identify where the TMS coil will be placed.

You’ll receive a series of single magnetic pulses while we look for a small thumb twitch.

This helps us determine the power needed to elicit the correct response for your treatment.

You may feel a light tapping sensation — totally normal.
Mapping takes about 30–45 minutes, and most patients find it very easy and comfortable.

📅 Scheduling Your First Treatment
We’ll typically bring you back the next day to begin.

⚡ 3. Your First TMS Treatment

The session lasts about 19 minutes.

You’ll feel a tapping sensation on your scalp — nothing overwhelming.

You’ll be fully awake and can talk, watch TV, or simply relax.

Our TMS Treater stays with you the entire time to ensure your comfort and safety.

Most patients get used to the tapping very quickly.

🏃 After Your Treatment
You can immediately return to normal activities — work, driving, errands, anything.
There are no systemic side effects, though some people may experience a mild headache or scalp tenderness. This usually goes away after a few sessions and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief if needed.
