Throughout her countless successes on the basketball court over the course of a highly decorated athletic career, Hardaway has had to overcome a significant obstacle. She lost most of her hearing when she was in the first grade.

Hardaway hopes she can inspire others to embrace their own unique sets of circumstances and the tools that exist to assist them.

The point guard has thrived in her senior season with UTSA. More importantly, she’s gaining confidence as she adjusts to hearing challenges.

👂 Hearing loss makes everyday conversation harder work for the brain.

When hearing is reduced, the brain has to use more effort to decode sounds and speech. That leaves fewer mental resources for higher-level parts of conversation—like following the flow of discussion and knowing when it’s your turn to speak.

When conversations become exhausting, some people withdraw from social situations. Unfortunately, less engagement can weaken the cognitive skills involved in communication— like a muscle weakens when it isn’t used.

The good news? Hearing aids can help by improving access to speech, reducing listening effort and making conversations easier to follow.

Don’t let hearing loss leave you out of the conversation.

📞 Call us today to schedule a hearing evaluation.

We often think of conversation as effortless. In fact, it’s a finely tuned dance of listening and speaking.

🔊 Tinnitus isn’t just an annoyance—it can affect careers.

A recent study found that nearly 1 in 5 adults with tinnitus have reduced their work hours or even left their jobs because of the condition. Participants reported challenges like difficulty concentrating, fatigue, and trouble communicating in meetings.

The encouraging news? Support and treatment strategies—such as counseling and tinnitus management programs—can help people cope better and stay productive at work.

If persistent ringing, buzzing, or hissing in your ears is affecting your daily life, you’re not alone—and help is available.

New research highlights workplace challenges and suggests internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy may improve productivity for those affected by tinnitus.

Clean your headphones once a week, or after each time you wear them to work out. Allow your ear canals to “breathe” at different points throughout the day so they’re not constantly blocked and growing humid and hot.

Constantly having headphones on can make your ear canal hot and humid, upsetting the bacteria balance in your ear. Here’s what to look out for.

🎧 Could your workout be too loud for your ears?

Many popular fitness classes crank music up to levels as high as 108 dBA—about as loud as a rock concert.

The good news? Research suggests turning the music down doesn’t reduce workout motivation, but it can help protect your hearing.

If you love high-energy classes, consider taking listening breaks or wearing hearing protection. Your ears will thank you later! 👂

In today’s trendy, nightclub-like fitness classes, the blaring music meant to push gym-goers through one more rep could also be putting their hearing at risk.

Did you know that listening changes may start earlier than many people realize? 👂

New research from Georgia Southern University found that the brain’s ability to process sound—sometimes called “hearing speed”—can begin to slow as early as our 40s and 50s. This means you might hear someone talking but still struggle to understand them, especially in noisy environments.

If conversations seem more exhausting than they used to be, it may not be your imagination—your brain may simply be working harder to keep up.

If you’ve noticed changes in your listening or communication, we’re here to help. Schedule a hearing check and stay proactive about your hearing health!

Inspiration on the green! ⛳ This profoundly deaf golfer shows that hearing loss doesn’t define what you can achieve. 👏

Golfers rely on their sense of hearing for shot feedback, safety, and the game’s social aspects. A simple example would be the phrase “Fore!” It signals golfers of incoming errant balls to avoid injury.
