This week, on Saturday, April 4th, we will discuss goodness and badness. It was a natural road from our talk last week about perspectives and viewpoints.
👀
What do we mean when we say good or bad, in a broad, general sense? We know that us humans feel an illusory safety and certainty in binary and dichotomous constructs. Gray is hard. A simple example might be the weather. The weather is. Period. Full stop. We hear people say all of the time, good weather is coming or bad weather will not leave. Who determines and how which weather is good or bad? Rain to some is soothing and to others is agitating. You know there are people who adore the winter and dislike the summer?! Maybe not this year in Cleveland.
❄️🌞
It is intentional to leave this topic open. I suspect we will extrapolate to good and evil and perhaps move toward discussing whether there is inherent goodness in people. Like all of our time, the group leads the direction. We will simply see where it goes.

Last week, we discussed the importance of Right View, a wise and clear perspective. Essentially, checking our perception of reality.
👀
A natural sedge-way and off-shoot this week, Saturday, March 28th, is to look at our beliefs. A belief being the subjective mental attitude, conviction, or acceptance that a something (proposition, statement, or fact) is true or real, often without absolute proof. It is an internal state of certainty.
‼️
In Sanskrit, two words come to mind. Syādvāda (it depends, maybe, perchance + viewpoint). Nayadvāda (partial + viewpoint). Our perspectives are at best and always partial and incomplete. I wonder how we would experience life if we held this way of seeing with humility.
🤔
The fable of The Blind Men and the Elephant seems relevant. It is an ancient Indian story about six blind men who encounter an elephant for the first time. Each man touches a different part of the elephant to learn what it is like, resulting in conflicting descriptions. The man who touches the leg says it is like a pillar, while the one who touches the ear says it is like a fan. They argue, each convinced they are right, and fail to convince the others. Humans have a tendency to claim absolute truth based on limited, subjective experience and ignore other people's limited, subjective experiences which may be equally true.
🐘
What if we understand that any and all viewpoints that do not admit an exception are false views? That reality possesses infinite characteristics, which cannot be perceived or known at once by an individual. How might we hold beliefs lightly, with discrimination and curiosity?

Hi Everyone!

If you have not yet joined us in Coffee and Conversation, please do. It is a delight to experience deep connections and wisdom among a wide array of people who come together in community.
☕️
The topic for tomorrow, March 7th, is the importance of social networks and what inhibits it, resulting in isolation and loneliness. Humans thrive with each other.
🍵
The epidemic of loneliness on a global scale is beyond concerning. It affects physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of who we are. The risks of heart disease, stroke, and dementia increase exponentially with chronic loneliness.
‼️
This week, we will discuss the difference between isolation (objective) and loneliness (experience) and look at causes, like, technology, habits during COVID, rugged individualism, less family and 3rd places. What is important, is to focus on how to enhance soulful connections so that we impact our overall well-being.
