🎄✨ We officially kicked off the holiday season with a festive trip to the Grit and Grace Holiday Market! Our residents had a wonderful time exploring all the beautiful crafts, tasty treats, and Christmas cheer. ❤️🎁

🔥 It’s Chili Serious Business at Avail! 🔥
Our directors brought the heat (and the meat!) in this year’s Chili Cook-Off, and our residents had the oh-so-tough job of judging 7 delicious pots of chili! 🌶️👩‍🍳👨‍🍳

🥇 1st Place: David, our Maintenance Director, with his Heart-Healthy White Chicken Chili — proof that good-for-you can still be GOAT-level good! 🐐
🥈 2nd Place: Christy, our Memory Care Director, with her Slightly Spicy Beef Chili that packed the perfect punch!
🥉 3rd Place: Liz, our Kitchen Director, with her Classic Beef Chili that warmed everyone’s hearts (and taste buds!).

Big thanks to all our directors for serving up some friendly competition and a whole lot of fun — and to our resident judges for keeping things fair, flavorful, and full of laughter! ❤️🌶️

🎃✨ What a Night at Avail’s Trunk or Treat! ✨🎃

Our community truly showed up and showed out! 🧡 Residents, families, and friends filled the night with laughter, costumes, and candy galore.

🏆 Costume & Trunk Winners:
🐻 Best Costume: The Winnie the Pooh family — sweet as honey!
🍫 Best Trunk: Sweet Spirits Bakery with their fun DIY chocolate pretzel sticks (and yes, they were delicious!).
🐝 Best Dog Costume: A Great Dane who absolutely stole the show as a bumblebee!

Our residents loved seeing all the little ones dressed up and full of excitement. These moments remind us how special our Avail family truly is.

And of course — a special shoutout to our Executive Director, Chris Beckstrand, who made a surprise appearance as a sumo wrestler and challenged our resident Al Miller (also dressed as a sumo wrestler!) to an unforgettable match.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this event such a success — it was a night full of community, joy, and sweet memories.

🎓✨ We’re So Proud!

Three of our amazing residents — Al, Lavonne, and Roy — are heading to Lee University to participate in the Encore Program for Seniors! 📚👏

They’ll be taking part in a seven-week course designed to keep the mind sharp and the spirit inspired. We are beyond proud of them for embracing this new adventure and proving that learning has no age limit! 💙

Day 2 of Oktoberfest at Avail! 🍂🎯
Today we tried our hand at axe throwing with Walker Valley Anchor Club,and our residents proved they’ve got some serious aim! 🪓💪

Did you know? Axe throwing is believed to have Germanic roots, dating back to ancient tribes who used it as both a hunting tool and a test of strength and precision. Today, it’s still a popular sport across Germany — often featured at traditional festivals and fairs much like Oktoberfest itself! 🇩🇪🍺

From pretzels to perfect throws, our Oktoberfest week keeps getting better!

🎉 Oktoberfest Week Has Begun at Avail! 🥨🇩🇪

We kicked things off in the best (and most delicious) way possible — with a homemade soft pretzel cooking presentation led by our amazing Dining Services Director!

The dining room smelled absolutely incredible as fresh, golden pretzels came out of the oven — warm, chewy, and perfectly salted. Residents got to see the whole process from mixing the dough to twisting the classic pretzel shape!

💡 Fun Oktoberfest Facts:
• Oktoberfest actually started in Munich, Germany in 1810 as a royal wedding celebration!
• Traditional Bavarian pretzels are called “Brezn” and are often enjoyed with mustard or cheese spread.
• The average Oktoberfest in Munich goes through over 500,000 pretzels each year!

We can’t wait to see what the rest of the week brings — from festive foods and music to games and good laughs.
