Saturday I attended SDS Darkness 1 hosted and taught by Strategic Dark Solutions in Garretsville, OH at the Southington Hunt Club. This course was a crawl, walk, run approach to night vision, not just using the equipment to shoot, but to observe our environments, navigate terrain, and utilize our weapon systems. Students ranged from local law enforcement, to SWAT, K9, prior military, and vetted civilians. Strategic Dark is truly an asset to the local Northeast, Ohio training community selflessly sharing their immense knowledge earned in blood, their company motto “By those in harms way” is apparaent throughout their curriculum with clear, concise, experience based knowledge and instruction. Joined by other great shooters and like minded individuals this was a class I was really looking forward to and did not disappoint. I am looking forward to attending future offerings from SDS. The slickster has done right by me the past year. Along with some other choice pieces of kit from , and this set load out has served me well. As I continue to modify my gear I’m moving on to the FCPC but wanted to take one more look at what’s worked for me thus far.

I wanted an Ohio flag patch in Multicam for my kit, discovered they didn’t really exist, so I had them made. I had to do a bit of convincing to get it done, but in the end a Michigan based company complied. The results are some awesome laser cut, Infra Red reflective, Multicam, Ohio flag patches. These are available now in our hastily prepared online store, link in bio.

Sometimes you go to the range with 3 different loads wanting to check zero and gather some data on performance. Sometimes you go to the range with 3 different loads to check zero and suddenly your suppressor is ruining your life. I had one of those evenings yesterday but this highlights the importance of training with ALL your gear and ensuring everything functions flawlessly. There will always be some degree of shifting point of impact when you remove your suppressor, but yesterday I experienced some really bizarre stuff when I was checking zero. I created a super solid shooting position using bags from Wiebad, felt super strong on the gun, groups with no suppressor 3” high of point of aim, but 10 rounds stacked into an 1” square. Throw the suppressor on…….same position, same ammo, 2.5” groups in a random peppering of rounds. So I was that guy last night excited to gather data on 3 different loads, instead I threw 90 of the same down range trying to find out what on earth is going on with my rifle. So in the end of the day I exhausted the daylight and will have to sort this out next week. Word on the street is 55gr projectiles coming out of a 10.3” bbl suppressed are super unstable, so we shall see what 62gr and 77gr do to the equation. (I DID clean my T1 glass before I started pulling triggers)

Sometimes you are just in the right place at the right time to accidentally get into an LMT 10.5” upper for a MK18 Mod 0-ish pistol build. I’m not usually a fan of anything with a FSP but this thing is pretty handy. LMT factory complete upper, KAC rail, with a FailZero BCG. Time will tell if this thing stays or goes, but for now I tossed a Larue handstop on there, dropped it onto an Aero Precision pistol lower, will probably put an Aimpoint T1 or T2 on top, and call it good to go as a handy truck gun.
