We are so proud of our very own Jessica (Jess) Whitesel, a life skills teacher-counselor at . Jess was honored last week by as a Hero for Children at the group's annual luncheon, held each year in April in honor of National Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Jess has spent 18 years with PEP, supporting children with significant behavioral health challenges. She believes deeply that every child deserves a stable, trustworthy adult in their life and she strives to be that person for her students each day.

In every interaction with PEP students, Jess creates space for joy, laughter, safety, and growth. For many of the young people she serves, she is the consistent, caring adult who makes all the difference. It is this unwavering commitment that makes Jessica Whitesel a true hero for children.

Students come to PEP because they need something different. PEP meets students where they are, ensuring their needs are met and that they have opportunities to reach their full potential.

With the right supports in place, students like Mikey are not only able to succeed in school, they are able to access opportunities that build confidence, connection, and a sense of belonging beyond the classroom.

For Mikey, that meant finding his voice and sharing it on one of the most recognized stages in Ohio.

With Mr. Taylor’s encouragement, Mikey took a step that would have felt unlikely not long ago. He auditioned for the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Chorus, a highly selective, adult chorus that performs alongside the Cleveland Orchestra at Severance Hall.

PEP CEO Eric Gordon has co-authored an article in Youth Today honoring former PEP CEO Frank Fecser, who passed away on March 11. The article highlights how Fecser brough the Re-EDucation (Re-ED) principles to life as well as his lasting impact at Positive Education Program.
