In continuing to celebrate , meet two creative and caring art therapists, Michelle and Ceara!

A year ago, these incredibly talented members of the Family & Child Life Services Department at UH University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital had the idea to make the pediatric dialysis unit more child-friendly and fun. They picked up their supplies and got to work, painting directly on the large window where pediatric patients receive treatment. One mural became two. Two became three. And now, one year and four stunning murals later, they're just getting started!

In addition to bringing artwork to our halls, they bring creativity and hope to patients across UH Rainbow by providing art therapy to patients and their family members.

Continuing with our highlights - Meet Colleen, Lauren, and Bev, certified child life specialists on the adult side of University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center.

This trio helps adolescents and young adults understand illness, express feelings, and identify ways to cope and communicate. Another aspect of their job is to prepare and accompany children who are visiting hospitalized adult patients and offer the opportunity to process and debrief post-visit. Colleen, Lauren and Bev also facilitate bereavement support for children experiencing grief and loss.

March is Child Life Month!

For over 55 years, University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Family and Child Life Services (FCLS) extraordinary team - child life specialists, art & music therapists, a horticultural therapist, special education teachers, and more - has shown up every single day to bring comfort, healing, and hope to children and families navigating some of life's hardest moments.

This year, their support expanded beyond the bedside. When their own manager, Shari, began her cancer journey, the team wrapped her in the same warmth they give every patient, from custom t-shirts to personal messages of strength. Their logo? A Wonder Woman symbol + a lime green lymphoma awareness ribbon.
