Bloodlines and Breakthroughs — Diabetes Awareness Month
Over a century ago, Frederick Banting and Charles Best discovery of insulin transformed the world, offering hope to millions living with diabetes.
Yet a century later, that miracle remains incomplete.
Every 30 seconds, somewhere in the world, a leg is lost to diabetes — not for lack of innovation, but for lack of access.
Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) is one of the most devastating consequences of diabetes — and the leading cause of preventable amputations worldwide.
In the Mississippi Delta, Bloodlines, Mississippi captures this painful truth — and the resilience of communities fighting back through awareness, prevention, and equitable care.
This Diabetes Awareness Month, we honor both science and humanity — the breakthroughs that save lives and the bloodlines that remind us why compassion and access must remain at the heart of medicine.
“Never be afraid to raise your voice for honesty and truth and compassion against injustice and lying and greed.”
— William Faulkner, Nobel Laureate, Mississippi
