American Ladder Institute The American Ladder Institute (ALI) is a not-for-profit association dedicated to promoting safe ladder use.

The ALI is comprised of members from the US and Canada who are ladder manufacturers and manufacturers of ladder components. ALI is the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) approved developer of ladder safety Standards. Standards are technical specifications, developed and tested by subject experts, which prescribe rules governing the safety construction, design, testing, care and use of various types of ladders. ALI was founded in 1947 and has evolved to fit the needs of the membership as the industry has changed. Construction materials and processes have developed according to changes in usage, duty ratings and industry need.

The American Ladder Institute (ALI) plays a critical role in advancing ladder safety nationwide.

ALI is a standards developer accredited by the ANSI - American National Standards Institute and serves as the Secretariat for the Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) A14, which oversees ladder safety standards.

These standards are technical specifications developed and tested by subject matter experts and establish requirements for the construction, design, testing, care, and safe use of various types of ladders. Through a consensus-based process, the A14 standards help promote safer products and safer work practices across industries.

The American Ladder Institute is pleased to offer a free Multimedia Training Program regarding ladder safety at laddersafetytraining.org.

The professional online ladder safety training modules are designed for use by contractors, unions and tradespeople as well as at-home users. The modules have been created by ladder type and have accompanying test questions that are scored in order to receive a certificate of completion - at no cost. All modules are offered in English and Spanish.
