MLK Day is not a day off. It is a day on.

At Cardiovascular Solutions of Central Mississippi and Fusion Vascular, this day carries deep meaning.

Our work takes place in the Mississippi Delta—on roads named for Martin Luther King Jr.—in communities that continue to face the consequences of historic disinvestment, health inequity, and preventable disease.

Dr. Foluso Fakorede did not come here by accident.
He came because this is where the need is greatest.

As the only cardiovascular specialist serving a vast rural region—working alongside Richard Cukelj, the only podiatric surgeon in this region—their shared mission is rooted in a simple but radical truth:
Zip code should never determine whether you live longer, live healthier, or keep your limbs.

The very buildings that house this work were delivered on MLK Day—a reminder that this mission was never meant to be symbolic, but lived.

Dr. King taught that justice demands action.

We honor that calling by:
• Confronting preventable amputations
• Delivering cardiovascular and limb-preservation care in a medical desert
• Screening earlier, intervening sooner, and refusing to accept inequity as normal

MLK reminded us that injustice anywhere threatens justice everywhere.
In healthcare, silence is injustice.

Today, we recommit—not just to remembrance, but to the work.

Because health equity is civil rights work.
Because service is leadership.
Because the Delta deserves excellence.

Cardiovascular Solutions of Central Mississippi (CVSCM)is a mission driven cardiology clinic in Cleveland and Clarksdale, Mississippi, founded in 2015 by Dr. Foluso Fakorede to fight health disparities and expand access to quality cardiovascular care in underserved communities.

CVSCM treats various types of cardiovascular diseases from hypertension, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and cardiac arrhythmias utilizing evidence-based practices. There is a hyperfocus on early detection and treatment of peripheral artery disease (PAD), using aggressive screening and interventions to reduce major limb amputations by 88% from 2015-2019.

We utilize a community-centered care model by providing patient education on insurance, financial literacy, with a full compliment of staff for support, and deliver outreach through schools, churches, and civic groups.

Dr. Foluso Fakorede also serves as CEO and a national advocate-testifying before Congress on PAD, earning American Heart Association’s Louis B. Russell Jr. Award in 2023 and serving on multiple advisory boards to promote health equity.

CVSCM’s two office locations serving the Mississippi delta; focused on addressing social determinants of health like (transportation, insurance literacy, and access to affordable quality care to reach at-risk populations in the Mississippi Delta.

Our Mission will always be to promote clinical excellence and proactive community engagement to eliminate systemic barriers to care.

Yesterday, we had the honor to be the guest speaker for the Rotary Club of Greenville. It was a pleasure to share our knowledge and expertise on podiatry and the surgical and clinical services we offer. Thank you & the Greenville Country Club for having us!

With Mississippi’s growing epidemic of diabetes and the highest risk of lower limb amputations, it is our goal to provide quality comprehensive foot care, educate, and deliver services that go above and beyond patient expectations.

Meet our provider Richard Cukelj, DPM, AACFAS

Dr. Cukelj is board qualified podiatric surgeon orginally from Ohio. He obtained his undergraduate degree from Kent State University. He later obtained his medical degree from Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine. He underwent residency at University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Cukelj has earned several credentials and accolades. He is a member of the American College of Foot & Ankle Surgeons.

Dr. Cukelj is seeing patients at the Foot and Ankle Clinic at CVSCM located at 800 North Pearman Road Building B. Cleveland, MS 38732.
