There’s increasing recognition of MASH. Most primary care providers, endocrinologists and obesity specialists are proactively screening for it. But you can be your best advocate by talking to your doctor about any concerns.

If your doctor thinks you have MASH, you may need tests to confirm a diagnosis. A hepatologist explains what kind of tests you may need and what those numbers may show.

Your liver plays a key role in how your body processes fats and sugar — and when too much fat collects in your liver, it can lead to inflammation and scarring. That’s why thinking about your overall metabolic health (how well your body creates and uses energy from the food you eat) matters.

How is MASH connected to your metabolic health? A transplant hepatologist explains how obesity can cause MASH and what you can do to improve your health.

Eccentric exercise and concentric exercise are two different sides of the same coin. They’re often used in combination with each other, but both halves emphasize different muscle movements and speed.

Eccentric training is defined by the elongation or lengthening of muscles. On the surface, it sounds like you’re immediately relaxing from a flexed position — but this isn’t completely accurate. Eccentric movements are meant to be slow and controlled.

When you’re focused on resistance, lowering weight and lengthening your muscles, you benefit from:

Increased muscle control
Increased muscle fiber
Stronger tendons
Improved ability to withstand higher weight
More microtears in muscle, leading to muscle growth and improved endurance
Lower rates of injury
Faster muscle recovery

Concentric movements are defined as the contracting or shortening of muscles. Although these movements tend to be short-lived and explosive, they’re meant to be tightly controlled. They’re often the part of the exercise that most people focus on. It’s the lifting of a bicep curl, the moment you push yourself up from a push-up position and the exploding rise to stand up from a squat.

By focusing on controlled, explosive, fast-acting concentric movements, you benefit from:

Greater functional strength
Increased power
Increased muscle mass
Increased activation of muscle fibers
Improved athletic performance
Long-term muscle activation

Cold sore triggers vary from person to person, but HSV is an opportunistic infection. That means it rears its ugly head when, for whatever reason, your immune system is too weak to fight it off. Knowing your triggers and seeing your healthcare provider can help you manage — and maybe even cut down on — oral herpes outbreaks. Antivirals can make a big difference for people who get cold sores regularly.

Some of the most common causes of a weakened immune system include:

⚪Illness or infection
⚪Autoimmune conditions
⚪Immunosuppression
⚪Damaged or cracked skin
⚪Extreme temperatures
⚪Hormonal changes
⚪Lip injuries and cosmetic procedures
⚪Lack of sleep
⚪Stress
⚪Food
