Is Your Knee Pain Coming from the "Fat Pad"?

What is the Infrapatellar Fat Pad (IFP)?
The Infrapatellar Fat Pad (also known as Hoffa’s Fat Pad) is a specialized cushion of fat located just behind and below your kneecap. For years, doctors thought it was just a "spacer," but we now know it is an active tissue that can become a major source of inflammation and pain in knee arthritis.

Why Does it Hurt?
When the fat pad becomes pinched or chronically inflamed—a condition called Hoffa’s Syndrome—it sends out chemical signals that can actually accelerate the breakdown of your cartilage.
The "Pinch": Pain often worsens when you fully straighten your leg.
The "Chemical Leak": An inflamed fat pad leaks enzymes that "chew up" your joint surface.

How We Find the Hidden Source of Pain:
Standard X-rays often look normal because they only show bone. To find the true cause of your pain, we use advanced diagnostic tools:
High-Resolution MRI: We use the MOAKS Grading System to see if your fat pad is "bright" (inflamed) on the scan.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a common condition caused by a pinched nerve in the wrist, often leading to pain, weakness, or that “pins and needles” feeling. Repetitive motions like typing, using tools, or even daily activities can contribute over time.

The good news? There are both non-surgical and surgical treatment options, from splinting and injections to minimally invasive procedures when needed.

At Movement Orthopedics, we’ll help you find the right solution so you can get back to using your hands comfortably. 💙🦴 Stop the pain and get back to using your hands comfortably: https://movementortho.com/contact-location/

Not all joint pain leads to joint replacement. If damage is mild to moderate, joint repair or reconstruction (often done with minimally invasive arthroscopy) may help restore movement and relieve pain while preserving your natural joint.

For more advanced damage, joint replacement may be the best option, replacing worn parts of the joint to improve function and quality of life. At Movement Orthopedics, we evaluate every option to find the right path for you. 💙

Peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) therapy is designed to help reduce chronic pain. A small implant sends gentle electrical signals to interrupt pain messages before they reach the brain, without relying on opioids.

It may help patients with persistent shoulder, knee, back, arm, or leg pain who haven’t found relief with medications, injections, or therapy. A trial is completed first to see if it’s right for you.
