Q: What advice would you give to someone wanting to become a vet?

Dr. Silas: "Focus on your grades, especially in science classes, but don't stop there. Build a strong relationship with your local veterinarian and spend as much time shadowing as possible. If you can, get experience at multiple different styles of practice. The more exposure you get, the more confident and prepared you'll be."

Q: What made you want to become a vet?

Dr. Silas: "I grew up showing cattle and being heavily involved in FFA, which sparked my passion for livestock and animal care early on. On top of that, I spent a lot of time shadowing my local veterinarian and working for them during the summers. Being hands-on in that environment made it clear that this wasn't just an interest, it was what I wanted to do long-term."
