Helen M. Sarandrea Physical Therapy is excited to welcome Dr. Abey Oommen, PT, DPT to our team! Dr. Oommen’s path to becoming a physical therapist began with his own injury journey—after tearing his shoulder labrum in 2011 and undergoing surgery in 2013, he was introduced to physical therapy during his rehabilitation. The experience inspired him to pursue the profession and shaped his patient-centered approach to care.
Dr. Oommen completed his undergraduate studies at SUNY Albany before moving to Texas for graduate school at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences, where he earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree. After several years in Texas, he returned home to New York to be closer to family. Having lived in downstate New York and Westchester for most of his life, he is excited for a new challenge and looks forward to serving the local community and making a meaningful impact.
With a special passion for shoulder rehabilitation, Dr. Oommen connects deeply with patients experiencing similar injuries. He understands firsthand the physical and emotional challenges involved and uses that insight to guide his compassionate, individualized treatment plans. His clinical skill set includes manual therapy techniques such as Graston instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization, kinesiotaping, cupping, and joint mobilizations.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Oommen loves spending time with his wife Puja and their son Cameron, enjoying family time, hiking, outdoor activities, tennis, and exercising. The move upstate is inspiring him to learn the game of golf!
Dr. Oommen is thrilled to join the Helen M. Sarandrea Physical Therapy team and will begin accepting new patients starting January 2026!
