The 21st Century CCLC Afterschool Program at Sunset Avenue Elementary School experienced a productive week, encompassing educational sessions on emergency services, pumpkin painting activities, and exploratory excursions to identify various types of leaves falling amidst the cooler weather.

It may be getting cooler, but swim doesn’t stop with the seasons! Water safety is important all year long. Check out these Myths vs. Facts about swim lessons and why knowing how to stay safe in and around water matters, no matter the weather!

Myth: swim lessons are only necessary in the summer
Fact: year round lessons are crucial to reinforce skills, prevent regression, and helps kids progress without having to repeat levels

Myth: swim lessons only teach kids how to swim
Fact: lessons teach children water competency, which is a combination of skills, safety awareness, smart decision making, and the ability to help others. Plus, lessons boost confidence and promote overall fitness

Myth: babies are too young for swim lessons
Fact: Starting early introduces foundational water skills and builds comfort and confidence, setting the stage for easier and safer swimming as they grow.

Myth: swim lessons will prevent my child from drowning
Fact: while swim lessons reduce the risk of drowning, they are just one part of water safety. Constant supervision, physical barriers, and CPR knowledge are also essential layers of protection.

At The Center for Health + Wellness, our team of fitness specialists, fitness instructors, and health educators are here to help you achieve your health & wellness goals. Our 42,000 square foot facility boasts all of the amenities you need to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Certified Fitness Specialists will assist you in achieving your fitness goals by completing an assessment that identifies your current fitness level. Next, we design an exercise routine specific to your needs and goals. Your assessment consists of checking your blood pressure and testing your strength, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance. A personalized exercise routine is developed based on your results, and equipment orientation is provided.
