75 Faces of Healthcare | Celebrating 75 Years
In honor of our 75th Anniversary, we are recognizing employees across different departments, from those who have served our hospital the longest to those just beginning their journey. Today, we are spotlighting two members of our Volunteer Services team whose time and dedication make a meaningful difference in the lives of our patients and staff.
Brenda Daughtry
Volunteer
✨ Years of Service: 14 yrs 7 months
💙 Why Healthcare: I saw the opportunity in the paper and knew Judy. After touring the volunteer areas and seeing how busy things were, I knew I could help make a difference.
🏥 Favorite Part of the Job: I feel appreciated and needed. Being around and helping others is great for my mental health.
🌟 Fun Fact: I’m left-handed. In my graduate class, I conducted a study on whether being left-handed affects a child’s ability to read from left to right. The answer - It does not. Also, if you wanted to determine a young child’s dominant hand, you can try these things: Catch a ball with only one hand, put an object on a high shelf, and retrieve it with only one hand. Place the child in a spot, then ask them to walk to you. Whichever foot or hand they use is their dominant side.
Shirley Hagan
Volunteer
✨ Years of Service: 1 month
💙 Why Healthcare: A friend encouraged me to volunteer, saying I’d be good at it. Having worked in a hospital before, I knew this was a way I could make a difference for others.
🏥 Favorite Part of the Job: Being an extra set of helping hands for nurses and doctors so they can spend more time with patients.
🌟 Fun Fact: I love pulling weeds. It’s so satisfying to get the whole root, so it doesn’t come back!
Thank you, Brenda and Shirley, for your generosity and compassion, and for helping us continue growing a healthier community.
