🦃 Creativity, Connection, and Community—Montessori in Action! 🦃

This Thanksgiving season, our Assisted Living and Memory Care residents teamed up to craft their own turkey decorations. One Memory Care resident even gifted her finished creation to the grandchildren of an AL resident—what a beautiful moment of sharing!

This hands-on, purposeful activity reflects the Montessori philosophy: empowering residents to create, connect, and contribute in meaningful ways. It’s more than crafts—it’s fostering independence, joy, and intergenerational bonds. 💙

What do we do the day before Thanksgiving. We do some turkey bowling-well actually Cornish Hen bowling. I do believe we could form a great team!

🌅 A New Dawn for Diane 🌅

Diane was living with advanced osteoporosis that left her in constant pain and unable to care for herself or even leave her home. Her condition had progressed to the point where she could no longer sit at a dinner table without resting her head on it. When Diane’s daughter, Tricia, was diagnosed with a terminal illness and could no longer provide the care her mother needed, she turned to Bickford for help—entrusting us with the care and dignity her mother deserved.

Through our HigherPath approach, we worked together to restore comfort and independence:
✅ Custom “Tilt-in-Space” chair from Fox Therapy
✅ Personalized pain management from our nurse practitioner
✅ Caregiver training for continuous comfort

For the first time in years, Diane can sit at a table and share a meal with others, enjoy the sunshine outdoors in comfort, and fully embrace life in the community once again. Her words say it all: "It feels like I’m sun-tanning again—just like when I was young!" Her daughter couldn’t be happier, watching her mom sit, laugh, and smile alongside new friends.💙

We took a spontaneous bus ride today to see the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train. We got VIP parking. Julie our VIP volunteer joined us and helped get us hot cocoa, hot apple cider and cookies.
The train was spectacular, the music was wonderful.
A Big Shout Out to the best BFM'S for making this happen on short notice. We had a wonderful time!

Tessa from St. Croix Hospice came and did an educational activity. Since it is so close to Thanksgiving, we celebrated pie. Everyone got to toss 3 dollop's into a pie. Jeff was given the honor as the "Pie Dollop Dunking Champion" as he got all 3 in the pie. We also talked about what we are most grateful for, our favorite food at Thanksgiving, favorite family holiday traditions.
We all did get to enjoy a piece of pumpkin pie.

Hannah, from Clinton County Conservation started her winter programs with us. Today was about Beaver Island. This was a populated island in the mid 1800's until the mid 1900's. At one point there were 12 farms and 30 families that lived on this island. They had a school house, grocery store on over 1800 hundred acres.
Many of our residents had been to this island or knew someone who lived on the island.
We are hoping that the timing and weather are such that we can go out on the Blue Heron by what is left of this community.

🌸 Hospitality in Action: A Montessori-Inspired Community 🌸

Our Welcome Committee recently reimagined their role and became the Hospitality Committee, embracing a mission of creating meaningful connections. Their first question:
"What would have made you feel more at home when you first moved in?"

The answer? A warm meet-and-greet—and so the New Resident Luncheon was born!

Residents took the lead:
✅ Filling nametags
✅ Arranging flowers
✅ Choosing a live musician
✅ Handing out invitations

This hands-on involvement reflects the Montessori philosophy—empowering individuals to contribute, make choices, and create a sense of belonging. The result? A beautiful luncheon where new neighbors felt truly welcomed. 💙

Chuck, our Bickford family volunteer accompanied us on our bus ride. We went to some of our smaller rural communities. We went by some of our present and past residents homestead. Our last stop was at Chuck's old homestead, which is now owned by Mollie, Chucks sister-in-law. Mollie was was a gracious host and brought out different breads with hot apple cider.... yum! We also met Mollies loyal companion Benelli Galusha.

Music is so good for the soul, add some dancing to the mix and you have fitness as well. Ron never disappoints, our residents enjoyed it so much they were up dancing and singing along. We can’t forget our amazing therapists from FOX therapy, Charity and Dawn. .

🌟 Ruby’s Revival: A Story of Strength & Support 🌟

After a fall left Ruby, a 90-year-old retired teacher, unable to walk, she faced one of life’s toughest challenges. But with Bickford’s HigherPath approach, Ruby didn’t just recover—she thrived.
