2021 ALUMNI AWARDS // Maxie Gordon '83 has been named the 2021 Alumnus of the Year. While at Belhaven, Dr. Gordon played soccer, served in student government, worked as an RA and was president of the Belhaven Science Organization. He attended Meharry Medical College and joined the faculty of the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Dr. Gordon now serves as the Medical Director of Gordon Medical Arts Clinic in Clinton and hosts a weekly health related radio show. 🗣Duke University recently released the results of a study that produced two very interesting findings:

1. Black Americans who identify as Baptist are more likely to have diabetes than those who identify as Catholic or Presbyterian.

2. Black Men who go to church five or more times a week are THREE times more likely to be OBESE than their counterparts who seldom or rarely attend.
